The perspective is weird, but the use of color is definitely working, I think.

I love the limited use of color. Almost reminds me of some of the older tabletop RPG book printings. If this was a full-color image, the focus would simply be on the scene as a whole, but here I get a focus of the struggle between Black and Red, which seems to be the theme from your commentary.
