I wanted to do an image in motion and went with the attempt of drawing someone hopping from one leg to another. And also wanted to do a fox that wasn't just the generic red. There are actually some things I liked about the sketch portion that didn't end up carrying over in the color. Primarily in that it was a lot more clear that they're looking slightly to the left. The sketch looked like they were just about to kick someone on their left.
I really like the way the anatomy turned out. Definitely much happier with this one than my last one. And tried a few new ways to handle both the fur effect and the clothing. And gotta say, for the fur at least, if I had done this in the manner of like Cousin Amber this would be in my top 5 of the year. Not sure now, though. I like the effect, but it's such a pain in the tail to try and control correctly. Like just creating the fur effect on the face took 19 different layers, because I needed each color for each major direction.
If I can figure out how to optimize it a bit better I might be able to use it on more subtle furring effects on commissions. But it takes about the same time to do as a Single Pass and is far more difficult to control. Still quite pleased with how it came out. If i did do Single Pass it would definitely be my #5 of the year. But the point of these Sunday drawings is more practice and experimentation, and this was an experiment on furring. So can't say that the 8.25 hours spent on it was a waste, even if it could have turned out a bit better.
