Part of the point of this chapter is to show that the Royals aren't a perfect team. They don't have a flawless record. So they do occasionally lose. And given the nature of the game, having a point advantage can be enough to just run out the clock. I'm sure you can think of any number of sports where the team that's winning will try and drag out the game to try to eat up the clock as much as possible to reduce the chances of the other team coming back. The fans might not approve, but it is a valid, accepted strategy. The other part is to just show how when a media organization really wants to run with a particular narrative, it doesn't matter what you say, they'll find evidence to support their cause.
