ACT 04- INFILTRATION, I named this chapter what I did for the simple reason that Fox has been forced to turn to stealth. He’s outnumbered and outgunned, and in order to figure out what’s going on he has to use his head rather than run in with guns blazing.
Author’s Commentary
I needed a place to put the prisons and wanted to reuse a location from the original game that would have otherwise been written out, so I chose DarkIce Mines since it felt appropriate to use a cold frigid place with caves as a hiding place for the bad guys. I also couldn't find a way to add the SnowHorns Tribe without dramatically altering the story but rest assured that they do exist within the region. The other Saurian tribes also exist, but I didn't have a way to logically add them all in. If a tribe was in the original game, they do exist somewhere on Sauria. I also got the interesting idea of reinterpreting what the "Force Point Temple" was. Originally it was a place of magic and mysticism, but now it is a military base, since I wanted to keep the name and maintain the location's importance, but also working it into the new sci-fi context I was creating. And, of course, the original game did very little with Krystal as a character. I wanted to utilize her more in this story, as will become clearer in future chapters.
Also, in this chapter I was careful to drop two small details. First was Fox noticing an explosion in the distance, which is showing continuity with what I described in chapter 3 regarding the Grand Gambit being ordered to fire upon the Force Point Temple’s front door. Secondly, I had Fox stumble across a family photo, which is the first time Fox sees Krystal even though he doesn’t know it yet.
Glossary
> Primea – the name given to Sauria by the ancient Krazoa.
> Stronghold Primea – An alternate designation for the Force Point Temple.
