Sorah Grovem

Sorah is a female renzar resident in the city of Amistad. (A renzar is a type of anthropomorphic bear or ursid species) She is originally from the planet Grom, as are most of the Chakona renzar. She is the wife of Regthar Sivem, the renzar sports fighter and airport guard of Amistad.

Sorah married relatively young on Grom, after a short courtship with Regt. She fell in love with him when she saw him fight in Grom, in the traditional hand-to-hand fighting sport of the renzar, calles Khudok. Sorah was delighted to see Regt's nearly naked body as he fought, the brown color of his skin, and the sympathy and tenderness the male renzar felt for her. Approximately one Earth year after the marriage, Sorah became pregnant with her first child. At the age of four, the boy wanted to accompany his father, Regt, to his job, on a construction site in the city where they lived. Tragically, a section of the building they were building suddenly collapsed, crushing Regt, his son, and a few other workers. Unfortunately, the little pup could not be saved and died at a nearby hospital. This accident marked the life of the young couple forever. Devastated by the loss of her child, Sorah sank into a deep depression. Regt then decided to leave Grom, to leave the past and sadness behind, taking Sorah to live in Chakona and start a new life.

With the help of Natany, Regt's sister, who had lived in Chakona for about four years, the couple managed to settle in a quiet residential area in Amistad, renting a house. Although the pain eased a little, they always remembered their son with sadness. Sorah was unable to get pregnant again for the next four years living in Chakona, due to hormonal problems caused by her depression. They were both starting a new life when they met Esteban Melinao, when he first arrived in Chakona. Sorah quickly warmed to him and within a few months, she asked Regt to adopt him as their son.

The renzar have certain inalienable traditions. One of them is the hand-to-hand fighting tournament. Something very similar to Japanese sumo. Another tradition is the "initiation" of children to sexual life. When the renzar boys or girls reach a certain age, they are initiated by their parents in matters of sex and reproduction, teaching them everything necessary to conceive offspring in the future with their partners. It is a special ceremony that strengthens the bond between parents and children and prepares them to be successful parents. This is believed to be because, in Grom's prehistory, the renzar often came close to extinction, due to reproductive failure and the high mortality rate of the species.

Esteban, being an adopted son, also had to go through this ceremony, being initiated by Sorah. Although he refused at first, considering the act incest (Esteban is a human raised on Earth), he finally agreed, supported by Lilethe Skunktaur, discovering the wonderful way of loving of the renzar.
