"A man with a poet's soul should never go to war."
Her voice drifted back to him. How little she ever spoke of it. Sometimes he saw pain behind the mother's love in her eyes, because he looked like his father, and she had never forgiven him for not coming home. She had died still bearing that grief. Now he carried it for both of them.
Mist rose from the lake. Twilight was the usual time for spirits, but this early morning silence, as if the world held its breath--who could say what it held?
He was no poet, but he had taken the violin's voice for his own and shaped its sound into the things he could never say. This song was for her, and as he tuned the strings, coaxing the instrument through the morning chill, he felt strangely nervous... until he drew the first note out, and peace came with it. Closing his eyes, he could not tell, now, if the music came from him or merely through him, humming through his throat and chest as if the bow were drawn across his own body.
A breath of wind brushed his face. He opened his eyes.
At first, he didn't recognize her. She was young, the age she had been when she met the poet by the lake, when she loved him, when they quickened a son he would never know.
She did not look at him. Her gaze went beyond him, and he understood. This was not his mother; this was the woman she had been, the one who still waited.
He played on, sensing something drawn out through the music, something called forth, a shape resolving from mist and morning light. And as the last note trembled into silence, he saw the second figure on the shore. Young and strong and whole he was, this man with eyes so like his own.
"The Lake", original song based on a dream about a haunted Lake, a Fox goes to it, performs his violin, to try and help them move on. I wanted to get that really atmospheric haunting feeling. :> Thanks to those that take a listen!

Absolutely lovely, as usual. So glad to see you using the incredible talents of
foxcali who is, in my estimation, the finest violinist in the fandom.

Yes, you did it justice, for certain! And I love that Fox has the wisdom to select great talent like yours to fit so perfectly into a piece he composes. He would not have selected you if you were not a perfect fit, so with that comes some pride, you were the one selected to render this most hauntingly beautiful melody!
I was just re-listening to it, as I have been playing most of Fox's music for weeks now, hopelessly addicted to it. And this piece can still give me chills.
You put something special into that violin performance. Yes, Fox put it in there when he wrote it, but you lent something as well.
Its as if a part of you is in the notes, a feeling, an essence, that they violin can relate clearer and stronger than other instruments.
This song opens like much of Fox's other work, and yet, that first note from the violin, like the story with this piece says: "he felt strangely nervous... until he drew the first note out, and peace came with it."
That first note sends chills down my spine, now hearing it for the n-th time, and still leaves me slightly misty-eyed. Its powerful, deeply moving, and skillfully played. Again, its as if there is more there than just simple notes that follow a skillfully written melody, its as if it adds up to more than that, like a bit of you is in there as well, it makes it obvious why Fox chose you for this piece.
Fox always says, 'Don't just listen... Feel." As such, to be an artist that works with him, well, all I can say is, his standards must be high. That the other artist not just feel, but be able to -relate- that feeling into their music. This goes for Merina, and Colson as well, to be vocalists for him. Don't just feel, -relate-. I suppose, would be the requirement to work with him.
You seem the humble type, from your other posts, not really willing to admit your skill with the instrument. Maybe you were just waiting for the right piece, to put some of yourself into? The way this piece sounds, so beautifully written by Fox Amoore, and then so skillfully performed (the violin part in particular) by you, it sounds like a master playing. Maybe, just maybe, your disappointment with your skill from before was because a part of you wasn't flowing through the strings. It clearly is here though, and I can find no flaw with it. It is beauty in form. And all I can do is say 'BRAVO!'

Thank you again, and yes! When I was recording the violin part for this piece, I wanted to be as sure as possible that the violin perfectly echoed the conceptualization I had in my mind. If I didn't feel stirred when listening to the playback, I knew it wasn't going to be enough to match the story that Fox created with this song. And you're right- I am rather humble when it comes to accepting praise for my performances, but this was one song I can listen to every time and be perfectly content that every nuance about it matched what I heard it ought to sound like in my mind.
And as a musician, I have to thank you again to read that my violin part was heard as more than the sum of the notes played, but a message and expression beyond just a series of well-played tones. It really did bring a genuine smile to my face to know you felt a connection with what I felt while I was performing. I think that's one of the most wonderful aspects of music, and when that sort of feedback happens, it really does create something magical.

I do love this track from the moment I first heard it. The piano weaving in and out, haunting voices in the mists and that beautiful performance by Foxcall creates a very moving and scenic melody. It fills my head with so many ideas, many that you know I'd like to commit to video one day.
Keep up the great work Amoore! *Hugs*

This is beautiful. The way your compositions and your music resonates with emotions is just amazing. This is just so moving, I can't see how someone could listen to this and not feel a swell of emotions in the heart, if not just cry. The last note was so haunting, I can't even descibe the emotion I felt from it. And the story to go with it... Foxamoore, you not only know how to produce amazing music, but how to collaborate the talents of others to create complete works that surpass the sum of thier parts. You are a true artist of emotion.
There are no words that can describe this. Truly, I will do my best to convey what I feel however...
This song...it does not merely sit and allow you to listen. Indeed, it flows through one, and resonates with the deepest part of one's soul. It bids long forgotten memories to rise, and upon them, sing in harmonious rhapsody.
For such a song there is to make, many more hearts shall come to break.
They too know the song's appeal; the twisting notes as hearts reveal.
One's inner depths, open to all.
Upon the siren's misty call.

Chilling, lonely yet so beautifully calming it is amazing how mellowed out I was when I closed my eyes letting this get into my head.
This might spur a story out of me and if it does I'd like to at least be able to link up to this to let my readers know the inspiration behind whatever might be in my head should it happen.
Any writer who happens to listen to this could relate with how lonely yet humbling life can be once you get older. You tend to reflect a lot more the older you get too.
If I make a story with this in mind I will be sure to let both you and Foxcall know what I've done if it happens.
We'll just have to see

I agree, Foxcall is a great violinist. The strings are haunting in a good way. with the story in blace, it makes for a great piece and I can almost evision a story taking place with the music as a great accompaniment to this story.
A young son is haunted by his mother's ghost in his dreams. The dreams become more and more realistic; a lake is shown moonlight. It shows how she died tragically in a drowning. Her visage is grotesque until she hears her son's violin. She stares at him but as it is said, through him as his father's spirit is the one that she is looking at. He hears his own violin without even playing it. He goes off to find this lake to finally put her soul to rest and to be with her husband.
Sorry, the story is so real I can almost write the story now. Music is a great motivator or muse for other artists, this is no different.

You should play Alan Wake. You would really like it. It's for the Xbox 360. It centers around a writer who goes on vacation in a lakeside resort in Alaska. It's incredibly artistic and story-driven unlike many games these days. Both your song and description remind me of it. There is also a 6 part short miniseries that prequels the events at Bright Falls, hence the mini-series name which is also called Bright Falls. If you're interested take a look at the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Wake
The composition itself is amazing, the violin is haunting and brings a strong sense of nostalgia to the melody. Thank you again for your wonderful work.

That was beautiful. I don't really know what else to say except I sit here feeling the emotions from the story as you play. Maybe one day I will be able to commission you for a similar piece. By the way, I don't know if this is an itunes exclusive feature, but would you please include the artwork as part of the MP3?
