Minutemen Tab Final Player; GM'S Wife Signed
WILLIAMSBURG (Va.) - In a move that some have described as a little curious, the Williamsburg Minutemen have signed Marron Gwosdz to the minimum one-year, $1 million contract.
The wife of general manager Samuel Gwosdz, Marron played college basketball for four years at Georgia Tech. She wasn't particularly spectacular, but she did earn Second Team all-ACC honors her senior year.
At the press conference, Sam not only presented Marron with her new jersey, but he accented it with a hug and a kiss.
"I realize what people are going to say about this move," Sam said, "but I believe that it is a good move for depth at the point guard position. We have a rookie with immense talent (La Tiérra), a talented player who knows the system and has started before (Rigby), and a talented player who is willing to adjust and learn (Gwosdz). It'll work."
Marron, who usually goes by her nickname "Blaze", concurred when she spoke to the press. "I'm looking forward to this opportunity. I know I'm not the best player, but Samuel believes I can help the Minutemen win. I'm going to do my best, whether it's in games or pracice."
Gwosdz played four years at Georgia Tech in competitive ACC play. Despite sparse playing time in her first two seasons, she progressed talent-wise and peaked in her senior season with 10 points per game and 5 assists per game.
Scouts who observed her from her college days say that Gwosdz's shooting fundamentals are sound and will easily translate to the pros. Her problems mainly lie on the defensive side. While she can play defenders one-on-one, she has severe problems with rebounds and blocks.
Gwosdz was also prone to frustration and pointless fouls came as a result. She frequently had to be benched in the first half of games because she kept racking up three fouls in the half. Gwosdz said that she was willing to work on that extensively to help the team.
