Kilo, born "Na Mea Kilokilo," has been spoken of in many stories. He is both apprentice and Emissary of Paralithodes the Learned, a wise, kind, and inconceivably ancient hermit crab large and grand enough to use an entire library as its shell. Kilo did his best to act as a liason for the great Sovereign Beast, communicating the petitions of the small, mortal lives that would have Paralithodes aid them, and to share what it's wishes were. It repaid him by teaching him as much as it could about the many subjects which it knew -- religion, mythology, history, philosophy, medicine, physics, engineering, art, music, etiquette, and the combination of these that some call "magic."
Time passed, and history becomes hazy and difficult to see. In some stories he left Paralithodes at his sovereign's bidding, to go out and experience the world, and to return to it when he had much learning to add to the crab's collection. In others, his ancient master became sick, and he set out to find a legendary magical panacea to cure its malady. In other, very dark stories, he wanders the world a masterless apprentice, seeking to avenge his teacher's brutal and impossible murder. Truth is a very malleable thing.
What is known is his enthusiastic, cheerful outlook, and his kindness. He is always willing to make mistakes, and he makes many, but he maintains a sunny disposition. Though he has vast theoretical knowledge of numerous fields, he hasn't actually put most of his training to any kind of test, especially in the most esoteric arts.
What I am saying is that he is humiliatingly bad at magic, like, wow, alarmingly bad. He's nice though, and sometimes that's enough. He's a wanderer, he gets around. He's probably been to your town, or your academy, or your monastary, or your circle of standing stones, or your gingerbread house, and if you keep an eye out, you may notice him when he comes back there again.
