In my story Drilling the Cubs, I had written how Graham Gurdetha is actually one of five siblings, and all five bears are professional musicians that were in the marching band for COTS, or Circus of the Superstars. His brothers are Xavier, George, John, and Henry (seen here). All five can play percussion instruments, but Xavier is primarily a trombonist who also plays the bagpipes, while John, featured here, is mostly a trumpeter. He also plays the natural trumpet (bugle), but here he just has his regular trumpet.

It was John who came up with the idea that the marching/military band of COTS also play jazz music, since Wildcat City's cultured side is full of jazz lovers. "I know I'm no Maynard Ferguson," he said, "but just like our beloved ringmaster, Rolf the Wolf, I think we can reach a broader audience for saluting the legacy of our circus if we play jazz as well." John's prediction turned out to be right.

Though he did not serve in the military, John has (as a joke) awakened his brothers by playing "reveille" on the bugle.
