This picture was taken yesterday when I visited my local youth centre in Monifieth where I used to volunteer at. In late 2006 I helped lead a group of first and second year High School pupils in painting a new mural for the back wall inside on of the big room where band practices and events would be held. My contribution was two of my characters at the time, Victoria and Graham (both of whom I haven't drawn for a long time) with some small unnamed raccoon sitting on top. It was my first, and to date only wall mural art that went on public display. In 2007 it was featured, along with everyone who made the entire wall mural (not shown here), in the local newspaper for Monifieth and Carnoustie.
The mural itself was a popular addition to the youth centre and to this day it still gets a warm reception, something which I still feel touched by today. Annoyingly, in 2008 soon before I left the youth centre one kid thought it would be funny to draw rude body parts on the mural, including my bit. I fixed the problem by scrubbing off some of the offending parts and painting over others, and since then the mural has since remained pretty much untouched.
Next month, the youth club are moving to a new building ajacent to my old High School. The old building, including the mural, is expected to be leased as a workers' hut by a renovating firm or something, and then is later expected to be demolished. It is sad to see this mural go, but then I have come along a lot as an artist and if it hadn't been for delays in the council's plans, the mural may already have been gone long ago.
Hopefully I will get another opportunity like this some day.

Sorry to hear that your brilliant artwork will be either painted over or demolished. Some students at my old school felt the same way when several murals we designed had to go when an old dining room was converted into classrooms. But here's hoping you will get another chance at it soon. At least you'll have this photo to remind you of your hard work and how much people had enjoyed seeing your work. BTW, cute raccoon. :)
