“Relax. You’ll be fine. I’ll be here to back you up if things go wrong. You’re going to need to learn how to act like a pokemon and get by unchallenged or else you’ll be spending the rest of your life skulking in the shadows.”

I roll my eyes but continue just circling around the kid, making it quite clear I’m not immediately making any attempt to engage in any form of combat.

“Look, kid,” I say, fanning out my tails and bristling up my fur to try and come off as slightly larger and more imposing. “You really don’t want to do this. Just let me go on my way and we’ll both get through this completely unscathed.”

“All right! Let’s go Squirtle! I believe in you!” he says pulling out one of his pokeballs and throwing it in my direction.

I turn and give Maria a look of disdain. I suppose this is what I get for saying we’re not allowed to go see the tournament. So far she doesn’t seem to be doing much of anything at the moment, just slinking around just out of sight so that she can get a better view.
