A Zappy Dragon - 3rd Person Dragon Animatronic TF
Sorry for the weird hiatus, I got sidetracked with this story and ended up writing a whole lot more than I intended. I haven't gotten cold feet just yet!
Xyron is just far too much fun to TF, and is a excellent dragon to boot!

Ed was wandering the courtyard of the new ‘Joy and Wonder Amusement Park’, looking for something to occupy his time with. All around him he could see other guests smiling and chatting amongst themselves, yelling out in fear and excitement as they flew past on one of the many larger than life rollercoasters. The Amusement Park had only opened up a couple days ago, but was already the talk of the town, and Ed just had to go check it out for himself. Getting inside wasn’t too hard, as for an extremely lavish and impressive complex, its prices were dirt cheap! And the rides themselves truly were enjoyable. He’d already rode the ‘Thunder Mountain’ rollercoaster and ‘Invader’, which was sort of like an extreme merry-go-round! A part of Ed honestly regretted not inviting any of his friends to come with him, but it is what it was. Regardless, he was feeling a bit worn out, and was just looking for something to do while his body calmed down and the adrenaline faded, just as he spotted a large building with a retro-styled sign, reading ‘Entrancement Centre’. That seemed like something worth checking out!
Ed would make his way into the Entrancement Centre, which was really just a glorified arcade, complete with beeping videogame cabinets and the sparkling lights of claw machines, tempting those nearby to try and win one of the numerous cute plush toys within its confines. People would be chatting and playing games, but Ed was just here to look around, to see what there was to do. He’d make his way deeper into the complex, passing gaming lounges and eateries, even an entire Laser Tag arena! But eventually he’d come across an ajar doorway leading into a dark room, Ed found himself drawn to it. He just had to know what lay within! Before he knew it, he was already opening the door and stepping inside, finding a strange room full of technology and wiring.
Compared to the neon and retro stylings of the rest of the Centre, this room was surprisingly sterile and well…. Bland? White tiled floor…. Pale blue walls…. And the numerous pieces of machinery and tools lying around… This didn’t seem to be a room for the eyes of the public. Something would catch Ed’s eyes however, in the back, a trio of anthropomorphic…. Machines? They were lifeless, attached to harnesses that kept them upright, while small cables snaked out and around the floor, plugged into screens and sockets in the wall behind them. Ed’s curiosity was too great, as he approached closer, feeling the cold lifeless metal, before checking out the screens.
As Ed was distracted by what he saw on the screens, he’d suddenly feel something impale into his side as he suddenly lost all control of his limbs, his arms going limp at his sides, while his legs felt like lead. He could only watch in surprise and near awe as he watched his own body start to Robofy, skin being replaced by green colored metal, small screws and rivets appearing along their edges, while a strange tingling sensation would push through his body, feeling ominous similar to that of a static shock
Ed’s hips and legs would be the first to change, bones changing to steel framework as gaps would appear around their joints, small bits of wiring and whirling machinery visible through them. Gears and pistons would get to work as their legs are pulled back and snapped forward into a stable digitigrade stance. Their Ankles would compress slightly as they were converted, internals shifting to accomodate a set of shock absorbers, while their toes would fuse and curve out into a trio of metallic talons, small sparks of electricity pinging off them
Ed's pants would be completely destroyed as a thick metallic tube punctured straight through it, wiring and tubing quickly latching onto it as metallic panelling spread across its length. More machinery would form beneath the metallic shell as it began to twitch and shift, becoming flexible. It looked very much like a tail... no, it was a tail, lightning bolt insignia plastered across its sides. It began to wag slowly back and forth, rubbing against the ground as Ed’s body continued to change
Not much long after, Ed's shirt would take a dive as two more metallic beams would push out of their back, extending out skyward, before forming joints allowing the two beams to fold downwards, concealing them once more. Thin black plates begin to form along their edges, clacking against one another as they go to fill in the space between, slowly forming a pair of metallic wings, hidden motors whirling as the new wings clunked into place, pressed up against his metallic back. And of course, small lightning bolts were also etched onto these too.
And just as Ed thought the changes were starting to calm down, another zap of electricity ran through his body, which he had to admit was actually starting to feel rather nice. Regardless, two mechanical protrusions began to form on his head. Grey and pointy, a pair of robotic horns crowning his head. Some static would buzz in his head, before suddenly music started to play in his mind! Looked like his horns were picking up radio signals~
Ed’s nose would tickle and itch while electricity pulsed through it, as it too began to turn metallic and green, fusing with his mouth to become a mechanical draconic snoot. The inside of his mouth would feel strange and odd, as his jawbone fused with the mechanical shell, teeth sharpening and turning into triangular bits of metal as his tongue became unresponsive, now nothing but a wad of cosmetic silicon. After all, machines had no need for tongues. Ed’s new jaw would flop open as hinges appeared on either side, the mechanical pistons and gears having not yet developed enough to allow him to close it. His neck would lengthen slightly as it became segmented, bands of metal protecting all the important wiring and tubing within. Ed's voice box would vanish, replaced by a small speaker that formed at the back of his new mechanical mouth, wiring settling into place as for a brief moment the derg breaks out into musical song, the radio’s tunes playing through his new speaker, before the connections and dials at the back of his head fully formed and stopped it right there. The black mechanical plates from his jaw would slowly spread up and over his head, forming all the way along and parting his rather statically charged hair, covering the newly formed dials as they spread all the way down his spine, past his shoulder blades and all the way along his slowly wagging tail
Ed's ears would twist and flatten out into a pair of metallic fins as his head started to shift and pull out into a proper dragonic shape. Of course, the fins were entirely cosmetic. Ed actually just had two microphone receivers concealed behind each one, which acted as the true replacement for his ears. The remainder of his hair would vanish as the metallic frame overtook them, and his eyes would part slightly as his muzzle widened. His vision would grow hazy, before drastically improving as they were replaced by cameras and LEDs, a small heads up display appearing in the bottom left corner of his vision. Finally the tip of his snout would turn a yellow colour as the lightning bolt patterns were painted on, with two being etched under the new eyes.
While Ed was distracted and disorientated by all the changes to his body, his arms would rapidly shift, turning metallic and green much like the rest of his body, muscles and tendons being replaced by small pistons and hinges. His fingers would stiffen and go hard, fingertips turning into curved claws as gaps and hinges appeared along them, allowing them full range of motion, though they still weren't the most wieldy of appendages. As Ed contemplated how on earth he was going to hold anything with these new limbs, hell, what he was even going to do now that he was… a robot? He’d feel his body grow and vision grow dark as he felt himself… power down? Cords snaking and retracting back as his lifeless body was reeled in, pulled onto one of the nearby empty harnesses, and not a moment too soon as a staff member entered the room, brushing off their uniform as they approached the mechanical dragon. Ed found he could still see and hear, it was just… faint, like he was half asleep. The Staff Member would look over his body, seemingly unaware of the fact they’d been a human being mere moments ago! He’d take ahold of one of Ed’s arms and tugged it up, as the numb limb complied, mechanisms whirring as it was lifted up and examined, staying in place even as he let go to repeat the process with his other arm.
The man would eventually back off, huffing to himself as he shook his head “Alright then… dammit this one hasn’t been outfitted with the correct hands either! honestly… Alright fine. Leave it to me to get them stage compliant, I suppose…” The man would walk over to one of the benches, taking out a screwdriver, before heading back over to the robotic dragon and sticking it between the metallic scales on Ed’s wrists, twisting it around as Ed felt his hand start to become… loose? Until eventually…
The man would place the screwdriver back on the desk, before grabbing ahold of Ed’s hands and… with a gentle tug… they’d both be detached! It was painless, yet odd. He couldn’t feel them anymore, even as the man set them down on the table, and once more set apon them with the screwdriver. Slowly the disconnected limbs would be disassembled tp to reveal the not so complex machinery within, parts being unscrewed and switched out... wiring rerouted... as bits were added here and there, before the metal and rubber shell was reassembled and screwed back together
“Alright, there we go” The Staff member would say to himself with a smile as the hands would be screwed back onto Ed as their feeling of touch was restored, small enjoyable zaps of electricity flowing through into his upgraded hands as wiring reconnected.
“Okay! Let’s do some pre-performance testing, just to make sure those new hands of yours are working properly, okay?” The man would say as he moved over to the computer and started to type away, Ed’s body starting to boot back up as he ‘woke up’ from his sleep. However, he still couldn’t move his body! He could only watch as his left arm raised up and performed a sequence of motions automatically, before straightening out horizontally as his clawed appendages would extend out and curl back in, one at a time, before lowering down as his other arm would repeat the same process. “Arm motions and grasping modules seem to be properly calibrated. Let’s try Legs now, alright?” They’d say, as Ed felt their left leg extend out, before bending in place and lowering once more, the same thing occurring with their right leg, the harness making sure the robotic dragon didn’t tip or fall over while this process occurred. “And now for the head” A few more key presses and Ed felt his head turn back and forth, like it was on a swivel, his LED Eyes scrolling through different emotions, before finally with one last press his Jaw would open, voicebox crackling to life! “I’m Xyron, are you ready to have some fun?!” Ed would hear himself say, internally blushing. The Man would seem pleased, stepping away from the keyboard as he put his hands on his hips. “Alright then! It looks like you’re all ready for your first appearance! Let’s just get you free of these cords, and we can get you prepared for your grand unveiling!” Ed would feel the cables in his body start to disconnect, the flow of electricity crawling to a halt as Ed felt himself go into a sort of withdrawal, he needed to have it back! As it turned out, he wasn’t unjustified in his desire, as his eyes would flash Red, his body feeling heavy and his head dizzy. “Low Battery, Please Charge. Low Battery, Please Charge” His voice box would ring out in some kind of default Male Voice, as the Dragon stumbled across the room, before being caught by the Staff Member and guided back into the harness, before Ed felt himself slip back into that strange dreamlike state.
The Man would move around to Ed’s back, lifting up one of the black metalic spineplates to reveal a set of screws, which would be removed as a hatch in the back of Ed would open up. While the Animatronic Dragon couldn’t see what was happening, he could 'feel' things being moved around inside of him, a gap opening up in his internals, which would soon be filled by a new device that Ed suddenly felt himself connected to as it whirled to life. The hatch would be closed and screwed back shut, as Xyron felt himself power back on. Except this time he felt… powerful! He could feel the satisfying flow of electricity from his body, originating from the new component in his body.
“There we go! Just in time for the show to begin!” Xyron would see strange lines of code flow into his mind, instructions? By the time he tuned back into reality, his body had already grabbed a black and green electric guitar, and was following the other animatronics through a dimly lit corridor! He could faintly hear the catchy music and noises from the arcade. Part of him wanted to know what was going on outside, but he’d keep moving, eventually arriving up a set of stairs onto a scratched and worn platform, the other animatronics moving into position, the floor echoing slightly with each step, before Ed found himself standing beside them, instruments and microphone at the ready. He could hear a voice on the speaker, but his focus was on other things. The Instruments, The Stage… even without the lines of tech in the corner of his vision, he’d already figured out what was going on, and even though the curtains hadn’t opened yet, he was already flustered, blushing internally. But all the silent protesting in the world couldn’t stop the stage from being lit up with faint lights as the patched up fabric pulled away to the adoring eyes of children.
“Introducing… Ferris and the Misfits! And their newest member, the Zappy Dragon, whose skills with a guitar will ‘shock’ you, Xyron!” *The Speaker would exclaim, as the spotlight would focus on the Green Dragon. And while Ed was feeling rather strong stage fright from all the attention, his subconscious rapid firing through all the different things that could go wrong, his animatronic body would not falter, taking up the guitar as he started to play, soon joined in by the other band members. Even though his clawed fingers strummed the strings, the noise came from elsewhere, as though it had all been pre-recorded! The kids didn’t seem to mind, clapping along as the band pantomimed their way through the song. This was so embarrassing… Why was he doing this? Performing in front of a crowd of people… watching his every move… they didn’t seem unhappy though, that imaginary mockery or criticism never came, even after he’d finished the first song. He’d feel the voices of doubt in his head start to deafen, replaced with a growing confidence as the next song would start, and the dragon would strum the strings with a bit more life and passion.
As the Show Progressed, Xyron found himself slowly getting over his embarrassment, starting to enjoy the smiling faces and cheering from the kids and teens. They… liked him? He’d start to get into the performance, leaning into his new identity as he played the guitar, the stiff movements fading away as he plucked the strings and grinned, starting to bob his head slightly to the music, which started to pick up, no longer just a recording playing in the speakers, but actual, live tunes and rhythms, coming from the instruments he and his bandmates were holding!
The other animatronics would seem to catch Ed’s spark of life as their robotic movements became smoother and more intricate, the fox starting to jive with his microphone as he sang loud and clear towards their adoring fans. Around the band, the stage would start to shimmer and shift, its floor becoming polished and smooth, the outdated speakers and faded lights becoming shiny and brand new once more! More and more people would start to be drawn towards the performance, cheering for the band!
Time would pass quickly for the band as they played song after song, even taking requests from some of the audience members! But alas, eventually closing time came, and the purple sequin curtains drew shut on the animatronics. Xyron could still feel the buzz and excitement, the cheers echoing in his head. He felt… proud of himself. Happy at the effort he’d put in. All those smiling faces…
Xyron would be snapped out of his thoughts by a pat on the back, the grinning face of the Fox peering over at him. “You did good Newcomer! I’ve never seen such an enthusiastic crowd before. Your name’s Xyron, right? That’s a pretty cool name. You seemed a bit lost in your own world at the time, but I’m Ferris. I hope we can get along well!” He’d exclaim, eyes beaming with enthusiasm. “Anyways, looks like it’s closing time. Shutdown won't be for another hour or two, so you wanna do anything? Now that nobody’s around, we’re free to roam about and play some games!” Xyron would be lead out by the fox, willingly dragged outside to the now vacant arcade floor
The arcade felt different when it was closed, its large open interior silent and empty of all life, besides the odd staff member or security guard. It felt a bit ominous and spooky, like one of those liminal space images he’d seen floating around the internet. Regardless, the dragon would eventually gravitate to an arcade machine he’d passed by on his way to the maintenance room. Being delivered to the maintenance room? It didn’t matter. The machine would chime as he pressed the start button and took to the controls. Manipulating the joystick and pressing the buttons was hard with big bulky claws, but Xyron quickly got the hang of things, quickly racking up a sizable score! He’d stifle a yawn as he then went on to another game, this one seeming to be an old Bubble Bobble Machine. Xyron would play, starting to make his way through the levels as his vision began to darken. The Animatronic Dragon didn’t even realise he’d powered down until he was back in the maintenance room with the others, plugged in to charge up.
Days would pass, as the band performed in the arcade to those passing by. Though it was a bit repetitive, Xyron didn’t mind. The smiling faces and cheering voices were all worth it. It wouldn’t take long for the band to become a well known attraction within the arcade, and not much longer for another member to join, only further increasing their popularity.
Xyron is just far too much fun to TF, and is a excellent dragon to boot!
