its ever been outright confirmed that she's canonically trans, but a lot of things regarding her design, her development history, and lauren faust saying there's a trans character in season 1 have made some fans accept it as unstated canon lol. even so, her being trans is a very popular headcanon these days, and I Just Think That's Neat
