who could ask for anything more!
I got rhythm,
I got music,
I got my gal
Who could ask for anything more!
You really have to shout that last line with big open arms...in my opinion..
My car rarely provides many pros. It runs, you can put down the top and has somewhat decent gas mileage. Aside from that, it's got ripped pleather seats, dripping oil from god knows where, the a/c has to be delicately fondled to get it running (even then it craps out periodically on bumps), a pair of tires that aren't supposed to be on the car, and it carries some un-pleasent memories of last summer (not all bad but bad enough).
It has earned time and time again it's fitting nickname- the crapmobile.
The one mechanical glitch that I despise the most is the radio.
The volume knob will blast the music even if you're trying to turn it down, the buttons to seek and tune are barely fitted in their slots and it will not play rewritten CD's (which, I have many of...). Most often times, I will play the radio which is the one dependable thing I can rely on to work in the Crapmobile.
When trying to put in a legitimate CD, the player itself will sometimes not take the damn thing. I try to press the seek button to maybe get it rolling in the little mechanism on another song, but unexpectedly, the wires inside will transmit that I'm tuning the radio and the radio will suddenly switch on- and I'll end up on some A.M. spanish samba or bible thumping moron.
Long story short because this really was more rambling than I wanted to ramble- my Crapmobile pulled through this time.
Same thing happened, and it suddenly flipped to the radio. Just as I was going to change it, in a button mashing rage, I heard the sultry smooth tones of swing jazz and immediately froze.
I *love* swing jazz.
I don't mean that Kenny G or generic shopping mall shit you hear on 103.1. I used to listen to that until this musical rapture.
If you're in Central Florida, (though it's supported by NPR I'm not sure if it reaches all the way across the state) tune your ear buds to a college supported (UCF) radio station: 89.9 F.M.
They have a little bit of news, small story segments, the occasional trivia, but mostly just awesome Jazz ranging from the past and present.
I usually have twenty minutes before work and I spend that time drawing little sketches and when the song and title of this piece came on, I just couldn't get this cute image out of my head.
After Arrow and Joe stop being total bitches to one another they, you guessed it, fall for one another and become inseparable (the story will be explained more later). I can imagine a plain ole cleaning day sparked by the sudden swinging rhythm of a top hat and stand up bass walk, soon accompanied in a chorus with a boom of brass and wind- that's when Arrow can't help but "sweep" her girl off her paws :3
Yes, we clean in our undies. Why not? ;3
(Oh, and the random scribbles near Joe's head are actually the remnants of a dream I had featuring Nicole Kidman....it was bizarre..)

:o swing jazz? Another person that likes swing jazz? :D like Sing Sing Sing? *tilts head and listens to the 10:00 recording from Carnegie hall playing right now on the phonograph. GO GENE KRUPA.* You, m'dear have good taste...
If they made phonograph players for cars, that would be AWESOME. I have over 100 records from 1930-1950. And no way to play them in the car because my CD player craps out too with burned CDs. *wants to be swing clarinetist*
Dawwww, the expressions is so cuuuute! Whazza song they're listening to?

Well, it's either "The Rocking chair" which is a really upbeat fun tune or "Who could ask for anything more?" the main title to the piece and a very popular swing jazz song ^^
I'm more of a trumpet player myself- I was first chair in my middle school jazz band for about two years *puffs chest proudly* Jazz has always been one of my favorite styles of music because it came practically out of no where and I'm sure caught everyone off guard when it hit the scene *chuckles* Much like people in general that don't fit mainstream. Jazz brings out the autumn in me- not sure why. it's somber tones just meet the standards of wintry seasons....
I'm glad to meet another consciously aware of the greatness that is jazz music from 1930s-1950s and so on! Thank you so much for the comment <3

Really? I'mma talking to a bona-fide musician? :D Trumpets ish good. Trumpets and sexyphone are saxy in swing...Harry James and Al Hirt and Louis Armstrong are some of my favorites, along with just about every single band member in Duke Ellignton's band (most awesome saxophone tone ever in the 1938 video of "It don't mean a thing (if it aint' got that swing)". There's just something awesome about brass and woodwind when the player gets all low-down and dirty and makes the instrument roar, but there's also sweet and pure tones that can come out of them too. That's what makes jazz so AWESOME.
Music is what keeps me alive, really, besides writing, which I do obsessivey. I have my clarinet, and several guitars for jazz/blues/funk, and I have an old Dean fretless bass too that I use to practice those running basslines. 'Tis fun because the phonograph is ALWAYS a bit out of tune, but the fretless bass lets you adjust for that. I have so many dixieland and swing records with great basslines, and they're real fun to play. And now my mousepad is turning into a snare drum whenever I hear Gene Krupa playing. I should get a drumset. XD

Wow, that's incredible! Another bona-fide musician! You must be extremely talented to know the varieties and father's of jazz as well as be so skilled at several of those instruments! ^^ I agree wholeheartedly with you on everything you've said, thus far! An upcoming jazz trumpet player that I've been a big fan of recently is Chris Botti. He's got more of that smooth jazz style (like you'd hear in the mall) but it isn't too bad and certainly something to peek into :3
I actually have a couple of songs posted on my old account that I've written/done covers of etc
WolfSong11 maybe you'd like to get a listen of those? Granted, they aren't as masterfully composed as several of the mentioned artists named in this conversation, but they're at least what gives me my 'cred' as a musician! Great comment and conversation, dear!

Naw--I can't even read sheet music. I just do things by ear--I can hear notes real well, see, and memorize solos and things like that (really fun for scat singing!). For awhile I did go on the rounds and played at the bars as a guitarist, but stopped after awhile. I mostly play to my bedroom now, although I occasionally play around with MIDI compositions. (Somewhere in my gallery is a by-ear rendition of "Casino Night Zone" from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with some extra frills like drum solos, etc. Was fun to make!)
Sweeeeet! Music! I'll check them out Monday at work, where I can download things on the high-speed line. Always nice to meet someone else enthusiastic about music!

Your artwork has gotten so absolutely fantastic, I swear! The expressions, especially... I'm sooooo glad to see you're still drawing. ^^
Also, sorry for the disappearance... My computer crashed and is still down (posting this from a PS3). I tried texting, but I suppose your phone is still bleh?
Regardless, do keep up the awesome work! Really, all this recent stuff has been great.... ^^
