Speedpainting: Bear Knight
Well, I took a break from homework (more like I couldn't concentrate) and painted a bear while watching Harry Potter. :D
I guess he's out scouting in the woods? Or something. *uses imagination*
Approximately 1.75 hours, sketched in Painter XI and finished in Photoshop.

Thank you very much~ :) I'm sure tomorrow I'll see something I want to touch up, though... haha!
Doing a lot of these quickly helps me focus on the painting as a whole (rather than just spend a lot of time on one area and turn the painting into a permanent WIP)... definitely good for practice.

Thanks so much, dood! Bears are fabuloussss as are a lot of the non-canine species... totally want to experience drawing them more. :)
Well, the leaves were a brush LOL (not that much magic at all). http://yumedust.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1xwr0p is a wonderful set, I recommend downloading it.
I wish I still had my custom-made leaf brushes, but Photoshop ate them quite awhile ago. :B

Thank you... very nice of you to say~ ;;
LOL, lots of drawing over and over... but looking at some professionals on dA, I don't think I'm as fast as I need to be (4-6 hours and their stuff is ready to be slapped on a book or game, wtf). So... speedpaintings are good practice for me. :)

That's a "speed" painting??!! Looks like it'd take a lot longer, with all the shading of the armor and fur. I'm a bit dense, or my eyes just aren't figuring it out: What's the long, metallic object lying horizontally at the bottom? That's part of the central body of the armor, or a bit of the armor covering his arm? Sorry!
Thank you~ I work pretty sloppily in these, so the actual shading stage doesn't take very long at all. It's just a multiply layer or two, with a color overlay so it's not a drab grey shadow. :) Detail is added on top and takes the longest to do.
I think what you're referring to is his belt (holding up that armor that's usually on the sides of the legs?), but I probably didn't define it very well. XD Now that I look, there is a part I could go back and define better... but I need my tablet and time for that, haha.

My answer to not being able to concentrate tends to be playing video games. The thing is that tends to distract a lot longer than drawing and I never get anything done. Hence why It's now 8AM on Monday and I'm desperately trying to find something worth doing on my culture brochure to print out for Laura today.
Thanks so much~ :D
And dude, I'm doing the sameeeee thing now. Laura wanted me to do something with my family, and I really, really don't (my original idea was "too academic," but I happen to really like that kind of stuff). Let's see how this turns out... good luck with yours, too. XD

isn't it funny how she tries to always railroad our designs into something she would do, and not what WE would do?
Granted, she's the professor, so doing things her way is probably the best way to get a grade, but it makes it harder when all the personal inspiration is sucked right out of it.

Thank you~ I know what you mean—it's so easy to go overboard in one area, and then all of a sudden you have a gorgeous leaf and everything else is unfinished. XD /does it all the time
Ah, thanks hon. ;; Doesn't the saying go... "you are your harshest critic" or something? XD That's certainly true with me... I was more complacent in high school, and my art (and grades) suffered for it.
