Sockeye Salmon
This was such a great opportunity, and as I mentioned before, the importance of salmon in the ecosystem was such a cool thing learn about. My client mentioned that you can trace nitrogen isotopes from the ocean to trees that get nutrients from salmon that fertilize the forest.
So thankful for projects like this! :)

Salmon are so extremely important for the eco system indeed! That's why it's making me so sad how their natural life cycle seems so tragic... they fight all the way back to the place of their birth to lay their own eggs swimming up waterfalls and whatnot- and those that didn't get eaten by bears or other animals on the way, will make babies up there and then die by literally decomposing alive. They become rotting zombie fish for a while! Eventually, their dead bodies will fertilize entire forests. But they still deserve a quick and painless death for all they achieve both in life and death. :(
Here in California this year has been particularly heartbreaking for the salmon. The damming of rivers combined with climate disruption having the effect of the rivers being too warm since not enough water made it past the dams, causing the salmon not to be able to survive the temperature. Combine this with the reduction of beavers to spread the water into the forests, and the bears to be able to spread the salmon's nutrients, and it impacts the health of the forests, rendering them more susceptible to drought and fire.
I saw the pine cone at the top of this pic, and it immediately sent a pang to my soul. We are all connected.

Oh happy day! I love fish, they don't get enough love. I'm so happy to see you do the salmon life cycle for your series. They are such a such a good subject for this because of all their physical changes that it gives so much to work with for a drawing. I'd love to see you do more fish (especially a Sturgeon as those are my favorite) but I can't imagine any of them looking as interesting as the salmon.
