Small fountain depicting the Nibelungenlied, Germanys early medevial national saga, which in parts takes place in Worms. Thats why the town is called Nibelungenstadt.

Well, not exatly, its celtic name was Borbetomagus, which means something like "water meadow", herhaps refering to its proximity to the Rhine. The Romans called the city Augusta Vangionum, after the then emperor and the local tribe. This name didn´t hold thou, and Borbetomagus somehow transformed into the german Worms over the centuries.
