First of all I apologize for the crappy photo quality, I made a collage on my phone cuz I didn't feel like posting 2 sepperate pics, but it cut the quality. It's not art so I'm too lazy to care
I always feel weird posting pet pics on a furry site but what can you do. I felt like making an update with a pic so here we go
This is an update to the journal I made about the dog my friend was really pushing for me to get
I got some good comments on that journal, one of my favorite comments I regretfully haven't responded to, but it was very much appreciated
Anyway, after a month of mulling it over, I decided to try this dog out
He is not my dream dog, I am not a fan of pure bred dogs in general and I really wanted a husky/shepherd mix
But this dog is beautiful nonetheless and he needed help. We adopted him under what I considered to be SUS circumstances. Since my friend talked me into trying this dog he also paid for all his vet bills. It turns out this dog had parasites, which is why he was underweight. He is now treated for it and starting to gain weight
He is supposedly purebred German shepherd, which I can totally see. But at the same time also wouldn't be surprised if he was mixed with something else. He is the result of backyard breeding. The breeder meant well, and both the parents were tested for hip dysplasia, but I still believe that guy shouldn't have been breeding dogs
I had hopes of making this dog my service dog, but I'm not sure if that's gonna work out or not. He is a very sweet boy and very smart, someone has trained him but he needs work especially with walking on a leash. He's been to obedience school but was living with a pack of dogs outdoors/in a boarding kennel since April so he's kinda gone feral
Do I regret this? Maybe a little. I really wanted a wolfalike dog. But there was basically no way I could get one right now. And every rescue I tried to adopt a dog through had really high standards and wouldn't approve me (for more on that, read my most recent journal)
I think this dog is a good match for me, even though he's not my dream dog, he is a very good beautiful boy and probably the best option I have. There is a small part of me that wonders if I should return him. But his previous foster was seriously sus so if he doesn't work out I'm gonna rehome him myself
We're getting him tested for hip dysplasia and genetic health testing done soon. He doesn't have the horrible sloping back that some inbred show line GSDs have, but his spine does slope a little... but weirdly also curves
I named him Dante 💖

Many people end up getting a dog they don't expect. Usually it's for the better though! This dog is very pretty and will show as much love as you put in them. I grew up with Gsheps and can say they are some of the most well rounded, loving, and protective breeds out there. Come in time you will grow very attached to them, just give it time! Also one day you could also get your dream dog as well if you so wished. In turn giving them a playmate. Anyways, best of luck with the handsome boy.
