This is not an executioner's axe. While you have the concept correct with the straight blade, they don't have a void behind it like that. This is more a straight-edged bearded axe with an extra long beard. Most executioner's axe blades more resemble a guillotine's, which is what the larger implement's blade was based on.
Who's to say this sci-fi axe doesn't have some sort of scientific upgrade such as a plasma field or a high frequency oscillator to allow it to continue cutting along the path of the blade? Why can't a sci-fi Executioner's Axe look different from a tradition steel axe? In T H E F U T U R E things can look completely different and achieve the same function.
