Ceran, Rallying in the 70s by Renneon
Rear-wheel drive, no power steering, a lightly modified production car and miles of twisty Welsh logging routes and country roads! That's how it was rallying in the mid-70s, when the sport was a lot more accessible to the general public. Most old saloons and hatchbacks from that decade could be rallied on a shoestring budget. Before the Quattro came about, the only four-wheel drive rally cars were Land Rovers and turbos were for SAABs! The cars were harder to drive but the drivers who mastered them were even more legendary because of it.
Here is a little time-period based piece of the lovely Ceran readying herself up for a stage in her lovely ex-Tony Pond, Opel Ascona A by strapping on her helmet and putting on her leather driving gloves!
Whilst not as famous as the world beating Lancia Stratos, Ford Escort and Alpine A110 of the time, the plucky little Ascona A proved itself to be a reliable, plucky little rally car with a World Championship Victory on the 1975 Acropolis courtesy of Walter Röhrl, another WRC podium with a 3rd place on the 1974 Sanremo from Alfredo Fagnola, another 3rd place on the 1976 Swedish Rally by Anders Kullang and winning the 1974 European Rally Championship thanks to Walter Röhrl. In the hands of Tony Pond, this car was able to capture many first places and podiums in various British events from 1974 to 1975 before being replaced by the mighty Opel Kadett GT/E!

Renneon who I simply must commend for capturing the car so accurately despite the fact there aren't many images of it out there. Believe me, I did a lot of digging!
