Red Shetland, Somme 1916
walt46 wanted to see in my call for Red Shetland armed with what ever you want .He requested Red at the battle of the Somme in 1916....and armed with a bow.
How could I refuse? Dropping the Kaiser's hawks in a dramatic and effective way.
Part of me regrets not having her in Black watch kilt and Tam. Part of me also should have seriously cluttered up the trench.

That... is a frighteningly clever way of dealing with the pesky box-kites and their strafing runs. Given that the Tommies were looting local museums and castles all along the front for crossbows, ballistae and small catapults for air-mail delivery of hand grenades and dynamite, someone might have tried it for real.
A few decades later, General George Patton would continue the tradition (against the same enemy). Of course, someone would have to lampoon it.
I can't be the only person who thought of this only on a more fiery scale
Even before I read your description. I saw her uniform and thought "Wait. those are WWI uniforms"
Now ya got me wondering if Red can shoot down a fighter jet with a bow and arrow "SAM's? No, I just use archery" *twang* "That's two down"

I remember getting into a light-hearted discussion with a military buff friend of mine as to whether the longbow would have worked as an infantry weapon in the New Guinea campaigns of World War II. There is, of course, "Mad Jack" Churchill, who (legend has it) DID use the longbow in World War II; it's indisputable he brought one to combat, though it's unclear if he actually managed to use it.
wait.... wait... wait that means John Rambo got the idea of knocking down enemy aircraft with a bow and arrow from Red

This is a great illustration of the craziness of WW1.
You'd think bows and arrows in WW1 would be an outrageous thing, til you realize they were still using spears and spiked clubs during that time. XD
My favorite are the Gladiator-like prototype helmets they tried to develop, as well as the suit of armors they wore.
