So, this is Tofu, my self-exploration fursona. She's a currently 5-tailed Zenko Kitsune, based on my own take on Kitsune lore.
Name: Tofu
Age: 467 (mentally and physically mid-20s)
Height: 5'6"
Weight: It's not polite to ask.
Gender: Female
Orientation: None (see lore outline below)
Personality: Friendly, outgoing, just a bit mischievous.
Bio (for Tofu's world, not Sloan's): Tofu manifested with an unusually low level of spiritual energy, and as a result was quite sickly during her first few decades of life while her spiritual energy stabilized. The result is that she cannot use kitsune magic and is form-locked into an anthropomorphic form. She was taken care of and informally adopted by a large, motherly 9-tailed zenko kitsune named Natto. Most of Tofu's early life, when not struck with illness and bedridden, was spent tinkering with karakuri clockwork mechanisms, and she enjoyed learning how they worked and eventually designing and building her own.
Tofu's inability to shapeshift and hide amongst humans meant that people would often regard her with awe or fear whenever she went to a town to buy tools and materials, but eventually people got used to her presence. In fact, it was the fact that Tofu didn't have the option to disguise herself that eventually led to better relations between Kitsune and the locals.
Over time, as technology progressed, Tofu started working with more complex mechanisms, incorporating steam, internal combustion and eventually electric power systems into her projects as was suitable. Her interests also expanded to include motor vehicles, and when the film industry started to work with more complex effects, Tofu was quick to jump in as a cinematic vehicles mechanic, which became her career in the modern age.
Likes: Anything mechanical, soft things, cuddling
Dislikes: The fact that she can't shapeshift or use Kitsune magic
Fears: Her spiritual energy destabilizing and causing her to dissipate
Now for my personal take on Kitsune lore:
Kitsune are physically manifested spirits, resembling anthropomorphic foxes with multiple tails in their natural form. They are capable of shapeshifting, manifesting spirit-fire, and with training, can directly manipulate spiritual energy as a form of magic. Some of the most powerful Kitsune are capable of transforming or possessing other beings, dissipating and remanifesting their physical forms at will and creating solid illusions, and have no limit as to their shapeshifting abilities. Kitsune are effectively immortal and can quickly regenerate from even the most serious of injuries, but this costs spiritual energy which slowly regenerates over time. If a Kitsune expends too much spiritual energy at once, they could dissipate and cease to exist.
As manifested spirits, Kitsune do not possess the internal organs of living creatures. They do not need food, water, or oxygen and are incapable of sexual reproduction. A Kitsune can still choose to eat if they do so, and if they do their bodies act as though they have a metabolism just like a living creature, although they produce no waste, the matter of the consumed food instead being converted into spiritual energy. Kitsune do still need to breath in order to speak.
All Kitsune are female in form and gender. They do not experience any form of sexual or romantic attraction as a default, due to not having the necessary neurological or neurochemical processes for it, although they can still develop strong attachments to others none-the-less.
