Bella, like Gillian comes from a rich family...who happens to own the fabulous local football team 'The Hetelville Hammers'.

The main source of her popularity though, doesn't come from her family's connections to the sports world...or even the fact a number of male and female students are quite attracted to her, though both facts do help.
No, it's her warm heart and kindness to basically everyone, regardless of social status. She's a very sweet sheep, who tries to see the best in everyone, always trying to lift their spirits.

Yes, her rising to the top of the popularity foodchain wasn't a surprise to really anyone. It's hard to find anyone at school who doesn't like her...except maybe Chantal Talapus, the only real contender for that spot. Who is widely disliked for...well, being a terrible person.

Bella's warm heart however, doesn't really transfer over to brains, and her tendency to see the best in people has prevented her from realizing what kind of person Typhon is.
To say nothin of being unaware of Chantal's continual attempts at hurting her reputation.
Fortunately she has Gillian to protect her, whether or not Bella's aware of it. This modern day Disney princess has her 'knight' alright, and hopefully Bella will find her character development soon enough.

Singing animals might be easier to find in this world, but they still aren't conveniently found after all.
