150 watchers: 001-003 Bulbasaur line
After doing one Pokémon for every twitter follower, I’m turning my sights to FA, where I reached 150 a couple years ago.
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
My first week on FA was a very confusing time: all my watchers had usernames that seemed fake!
Zc456
My first follower was Zc456, who at the time had a mouse ’sona dressed in a kilt. To him I present my first ever pokémorph: Bulbasaur! (Yes, first. Rick Griffin doesn’t count).
Two things surprised me about this one: 1) there are some things I could get away with before because “Pokémon = animal” that I can’t when it’s anthro; and 2) kilts are hard to draw! I’ve drawn skirts, I’ve drawn tweed; kilts shouldn’t be hard!
sw1006
Then came sw1006 who has always had a wolf with a cigar as his profile picture. To him I present an Ivysaur who will immediately say “Master, no! Smoking is bad for you!”
I’m trying to make sure every sketch in this series has an anthro element. That doesn’t mean the Pokémon needs to be anthropomorphic, the recipient’s ’sona counts!
As for the cigar, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
In this sketch, everything I thought would be easy, proved difficult, and everything I thought would be difficult, proved easy. For example: Ivysaur’s eyes (thought they’d be easy and they proved difficult and probably didn’t come out well) and the “where’s my cigar” expression (thought it would be difficult but proved easy).
clemaxgra
The third watcher of that first week was clemaxgra, whose height happens to match Venusaur’s perfectly (but, of course, that is counting the tree on Venusaur’s back). I did not know at the time where I knew clemaxgra from, I was just happy that I was gaining followers faster than on any other platform.
I don’t know if it’s hard to tell, but I’m having Clemaxgra play the role of Blue (a.k.a. Gary), the emblematic Venusaur trainer. Yes, I picked Squirtle (for Fire Red, my first game was Yellow so I didn’t get to pick there)
Although I’ve drawn Clemaxgra before, I had trouble with all the same things I had trouble last time, particularly the long neck and the rounded muzzle. It’s like Iearned nothing!
Can you begin to see why I thought the watcher list was in watch order, most-recent to least?
As with the twitter sketches, if you want yours colored, or if you want me to edit you in to somebody else's, I'll happily do it for $5 (not counting shading)
