Canon:Shattered World"In our last stop on our journey to find a new continent we found ourselves at the edge of a new territory, we've been following a trade route for days in the hops of finding a new city or outpost for trading, but in this morning we found something considerable more ominous, a huge stone monolith around 100 meters tall covered in strange simbols and the representation of a large femine shadowy figure surrounded by smaller individuals,The whole painting had a strong neolithic style but clearly done with more advanced methods, while it was evidently representing pregnancy ,the horns and the the disproportional claws had a clear hostile or defensive intent.
As we approached the monolith, master Tareek our first mate was tremendously nervous and apprehensive, he told us we were about to enter a quite dangerous cannibal territory, and we have to make an offering on the monolith for protection, Tareek proposed for us to offer a fresh carcass we found in the previous night, I protested immediately, how could we waste such a large amount of meat in our currently scarce situation to appease a mere tribal superstition!? a debate ensued between me and master Tareek, captain Clutch intervened bu he also was in doubt, both sides of the argument sounded reasonable for him, so he let the final decision for the supernatural authority of the ship, Danadriel.
Danadriel was completely oblivious as our debate, he was too concentrated gazing the monolith with tender in his eyes, when the captain called his attention Danadriel turned to us with a childish enthusiasm and said "She is hungry, her womb carry many...we need to feed her..." with this final word the captain ordered Danadriel to make the offering to the monolith, but I decided to go with him to take a good picture of the monolith, as we walked to the stone I had a very fruitful conversation with Danadriel about ancient tribal deities, he displayed a knowledge and expertise about this topic that overshadowed any scholar I ever met, he told me about gods I never heard about and people that worshiped them, but still he had no idea about this deity on the monolith.
More as we approached I noticed the uncanny similarity of Danadriel and the painting, especially the "womb" tattoo, as I mentioned it he joked about me paying too much attention to his crotch, but when he stopped laughing he told me this strange sun is a ancient symbol that refers to fertility, but in a genderless perspective, referering to the male the female and the "in between", I was still puzzled about what he meant with it,so I asked what is the "in between" This drove Danadriel to a storm of enthusiastic storytelling, he mentioned so called witch gods, the cauldron of creation, the divine betrayal, the exile of Zuriah and many other elements my mind was not able to keep track of, by the end he told me he is an hermaphrodite who can not just impregnate someone but also get pregnant, what for me sounded ludicrous, so I questioned if he had truly ever gave birth to a child, as I said it he seemed to be ready to tell another overly enthusiastic story, but all the sudden he remembered something that brought a mourn to his eyes, so he stopped talking for the rest of the walk.
When we finally reached the offering altar, we found a grotesque display of cruelty, many of the offerings were mangled corpses of man, woman and even infants, it was not my first time witnessing such thing but it was hard to stomach, I let Danadriel alone doing the offering as I gazed the image once again, now much more closer it seemed dreadful and oppressive, I could feel the uncanny energy of that place, like a whispering on my ears saying "she hungers..." once the offering was done we left the place swiftly.Once in the safety of our ship once again, Tareek told us that half of the crew should sleep, because we would travel non stop for the next probably, in no hypothesis we should stop once we entered this new territory, so we divided ourselves in 2 groups, to take turns guarding and steering the ship.
In the following day once Tareek was feeling calm I asked him why the panic and what that monolith means to him, he told me with dread on his voice that figure is called by the nomads "The Mother that Hungers" and most of those who worship her are not what we would consider civilized folk, according to the stories Tareek detailed me, these tribes are relentless predators of the night, they wear the skin and bones of their victims, and those who die in their attacks are the lucky ones, those who are captured are used as sacrifices in huge and elaborate rituals, that range from victims being devoured alive, bestiality, gang rapes and so on, and we in such small, frail and poorly armed ship are prime targets for those tribes.
In the 4th night of our mad dash to leave that territory only me and Danadriel were awake, I was steering the ship while Danadriel was keeping on eye on the spyglass, before we could realize 2 ships came speeding out from behind a rock formation, in a matter of seconds we were surrounded, just by looking I could count at least 50 enemies on the decks ready to board us, it was over, all I could think in that moment was the suffering we were about to endure, I had my revolver loaded with 8 bullets, the last 2 would be for me and my assistant.
in this moment something odd happened, once the cannibals gazed upon Danadriel they stood immobile, then Danadriel made a gesture with his arms going from his belly to his horns in a swift motion opening his arms in the end, and so the cannibals of both ships answered smiling and repeating the same gesture, following this they disengaged and took another route disappearing in the sands, once I recovered from the scare, I asked Danadriel what he did, and he looked at me equally afraid and shaking and said "I don't have the faintest clue... but I'm surprised it worked", once the sun rose again we found ourselves out of the cannibal lands, we could finally sigh a breath of relief, that nightmare was over but I still have so many questions..."
