Is the story about the alchemist referencing some real-world chemistry? It sounds like he's describing sulfuric acid, but I'm not sure what "treatments" that would lead to. Unless you're referencing sulfa drugs?

You can make lose connection to our worlds discoveries for sure.
Fx, a lil google search says "8th century alchemist Jabir ibn Hayyan discovered sulfuric acid"
But, in this world, lets call it, Valsalia´s world, it was a person named Malakai Lahurron from Auhei who discovered something that would end up as more or less the same thing.

Combine it with a little fantasy and leeway on how stuff works, and you have how it works in this comic and to a point Out Of Placers.
