He needed to hear this put in a kinder way, but it takes a lot of tact and courage for a friend to risk saying something like this. So these statements end up coming out in frustration or under stress- just like you've shown here. You're doing a great job showing how everyone's life is complicated- nobody's just an "NPC friend" who only exists as a shoulder to cry on. The complexity of the personal lives of your characters makes for really good reading- and compassion for characters we would otherwise dismiss as villains.
I’m thankful you’re getting what I’m going for and appreciating it! Yeah, Carolina isn’t here to be Basil’s “fag hag,” I really wanted to give her her own flaws and dimensionality. Even though it is executed harshly, Basil should take it to heart and really commit like he says he will.
Personally she does have a point. Assumptions and "what ifs" don't solve the problems you got if you're too afraid to find out the answer from the source itself, I would've said the same thing, minus the storming off and hard words, but she's got a bit of stress on herself at the moment.
Yeah, I've been in Carolina's position... kind of. I had a friend who could never settle on a fursonna, and kept asking me for advice constantly, yet refused anything that might allow them to be organic and switch in-character. It got exceptionally frustrating.
While I would like to believe I handled it better than Carolina did (she does have a bit of "lubrication" going on here from the booze), I totally get why. It doesn't help that Basil is missing on a few cues that Carolina's not at her best, either.
