Captain LeBlanc
by LonelyRider
Miss Lonely Rider was inside the courtyard of a peasent town, reading Old Testament stories to the children, who seemed to be enjoying it. She smiled kindly at them and turned the page.
"The once wise King Solomon began to falter, and slowly but surely, he fell to corruption. He..."
Lonely gasped as a pike impaled her bible, nearly missing her thigh. The kids all cowered behind her, looking disappointed their tale had been abruptly cut short. An angry slight man glared down at the scantily dressed aspiring saint.
"God is not welcome in this village." He seethed, sticking a finger in Lonely's face, she gasped but nodded, her thickly lashed eyes gazing up.
"Yes, i understand. I'll set up outside the boundaries of town. Children, come see me there, and we can finish the tale of King Solomon." Lonely said kindly, the kids hugged her, whining to the captain, who shooed them off impatiently.
Later that night, Lonely was serving a stew she'd made to the homeless of the town, but as she'd sworn, outside the boundaries. The kind young mare read to the children form her literally holy bible as she served the hungry poor.
'Priest! Priest, are you still out here? There you are! Come quickly, our mother is ill! Please help." A young boy frantically begged out of nowhere. Lonely knew she wasn't allowed in town, but she didn't hesitate.
"Oh no! I'll do everything I can to help, lead the way?" Lonely said. The boy led her to a humble home where a woman lay deathly quiet. Lonely quickly read a healing hymn and prayed over her, asking God for his mercy and aid.
"Will she be okay?" The boy sniffled. Lonely cast him a kind and empathetic look. She touched his face and went to reply, when the door burst open and the man from earlier burst forth, his sword drawn.
"Captain LeBlanc! Please sir, I..." the boy stammered.
"Ignorant whelp! You know the God of Christianity isn't wecome here, yet you go to this witch for help? She's probably cursed your mother as punishment for being a heathen. isn't that right, sow?" The captain held his blade to Lonely's neck.
"No sir, never, my God is merciful and kind, I swear I'm here to aid, not convert or damn." Lonely pled honestly.
"That isn't how I recall the crusades, girl. What do you know? Arrogance, always. You were warned not to come here. I'll deal with you now." Captain Leblanc growled, he ordered his soldiers to arrest Lonely and they bound her wrists and ankles tightly in chains, she winced but didn't struggle, knowing she wasn't a fighter like her beloved boyfriend, who was at home and didn't know what was befalling his girl. "Take her to the rock!" Leblanc ordered.
"Captain, not Shipeater, please!"
"Silence!" LeBlanc slammed the door on the boy, who gasped as his mother stirred.
Lonely was shaking, her heart thudding hard. LeBlanc's men chained her tightly to a jagged sea rock, looking nervous. Lonely whimpered; there were human and furry skeletons all around in the surf, picked clean with vast fang marks etched into them. Lonely looked to the sea in terror, as they all heard a low guttural growl echoing across the rocks. A shadow emerged from the sea, coils writhing. The men and their captain mounted up and abandoned Lonely to her fate.
"The plump girl will make a fine meal for the beast!" LeBlanc jeered to his men, as they gallopped away. Lonely writhed in her chains, shaking harder and whimpering more. she was so scared she forgot to pray like she normally would. The sea serpent growled again, this time the low sound reverberated through her bones, as the creature opened it's jaws to reveal 2 foot long fangs dripping with saliva, its breath smelled like death and decay.
Lonely thought of all her friends, family, and of course her treasured man, closing her eyes tightly; she actually felt the monster touch her it was so close. It raised up to strike and Lonely gasped, knowing her end had come. She braced and shut her eyes tight, crying and shouting through clenched teeth as the beast came for her. Shipeater was shocked to bite not into the voluptious flesh of the female equine but a thick metal shield which broke one of his teeth. The serpent cried out in pain, rearing up again. Lonely gasped, things happened very fast. Archangel Michael was before her, literally shielding her. With a skilled swipe of his fiery sword he freed Lonely from her bonds, blocking another blow from the serpent as he took wing, carrying her.
"Child, who has wrought this upon you?" He asked. Lonely bowed her head respectfully.
"Beautiful Arachangel, thank you for coming to my aid! The captain of Mourning, please, if it is all right, spare him and the serpent."
The arachangel's face grew pensive, his gorgoues glowing wings beating.
"You would spare the captain who condemned you to martyrdom and the monster who would accomplish it?" There was no mocking in the mighty angel's tone.
"I would, your holiness." Lonely replied.
Archangel Michael smiled at her kindly, literally glowing, and she grinned back lovingly at him.
"Then so be it, aspiring saint." He replied, raising his arm as he flew her home. In the distance, Shipeater's fang was healed and the angelic soldiers Michael had sent to trail the captain obeyed his order to fall back.
Though he would valiantly try, when he found out, Lonely's angel gladiator boyfriend James LightningSword would not be able to show the captain any such mercy at all.
