This is a short video of an unofficial promo for manga "Monotone Blue" by Nagabe.
It was worked on in summer of 2021.
(Animatic is a Storyboard on a timeline, sometimes with rough sound\music)
I had this intention for something like this ever since i read Escalate.

After Monotone Blue was released in a book form and and i got the access to the visuals past chapter 6 (i was sent photos of pages) i decided to move on with the intent out of despair.
This resulted in a 10-day binge where i was doing nothing but this basically. In the end it led to burnout, dissapointment and depression for a few months later. In a weird way i was probably craving this unfortunate catharsis at the time.

Since then I kept the distance from Monotone Blue it and dreaded to deal with this animatic again. I've only showed this to a few trusted people. Including Nagabe himself who seemed to have enjoyed it.

A week ago i finally read the rest of the manga past chapter 6 in english and decided to just get it out there.
It's not likely to be finished or even touched again by me.

I just wanted to act on a dream of making Monotone Blue on screen on my own volition, one way or another. Thought of someone else doing it was unbearable for me but now i feel like letting go and moving on. Someone in Production I.G. \WIT Studio who worked on Totsuki no Shoujo probably has the chops to do it justice good enough. And for me to lose myself to a fanwork like that may not be the best course of action.
