Red flags start firing off in my head as the Nidoking starts doing something rather strange. Instead of still trying to hit me he immediately starts backing off from the fight. The Palossand is doing similar, though they are still staying close. It’s just that one is backing away towards where the Team Rocket people are being located while the other is mainly playing in a defensive position. It is very clear to me that they are up to something and are carrying out more of a stalling tactic than trying to take me down for the time being. And since they are on the defensive and not actively engaging I slow down a bit to try and catch my breath at least a little. And as my mind goes through this I quickly look over at the Team Rocket members and see they’re separating themselves from one person.

This means my fears were quite likely justified. They’re offering one of their own as a sacrificial lamb to the slaughter to get an advantage. The Nidoking is moving to capitalize when the compulsion takes over and to further prove me right in this suspicion, I look and see the Graveler just go all out and attack the Shiftry rather than Maria, causing her to pause as well. But it was apparently enough and the pokemon goes down.
