Glory, Page Twenty-Six
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
Glory is the first big collaboration between
foxenawolf and myself. She does the linework, and I make it a comic. Basically I draw the panels and do the toning and shading and tweak and move and wiggle people around and just comic it up. I also write the script.
I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO SHOW OFF THIS PAGE EVER SINCE I FINISHED IT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO HELPED US MAKE DONATION GOAL AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
This was when I finally and truly got my groove with Glory and how I wanted to lay down the imagery and look of it. This is Verse and Gohl "Samuel" Voght showing you that they're not a pair of nobodies these wolves are shaking down. Samuel is rumored to be a HIGH vampire, one of the truly old ones from before the world turned inside out, who remembers the before. And these poor fellows made the mistake of assuming that because it is daytime that Sam is powerless. All Sam needs to do his magic is blood and darkness, and he keeps plentiful supplies of both around him at all times in that carriage. Samuel is actually manipulating the bits of shadow between the grains of sand to make shadow lances. They die fast in sunlight but they only need to be sharp for a moment.
Samuel can also teleport something from one patch of shadow to another. That isn't exactly easy, especially not in the daytime, but as mentioned earlier Samuel is rumored to be one of the old and powerful vampires from the before days. And it helps that Verse is a trusted servant and probably has a few charms and tricks to make the teleport easier for Sam.
As for Verse... most Vampires in Glory have dwarves assisting and helping them. During the war many vampires sought refuge underground and made alliances with the dwarves while the wolves reveled in their victory. And if Gohl really is one of the ancient and powerful ones it would only stand to reason that he would also keep similarly competent help under his employ. Verse is a crack shot and can make bullets do things they probably shouldn't be able to do with that whole white light and white steam thing. Among Verse's many many MANY secrets is that they're a bit of the cleric, and among their abilities is the ability to alter the property of metal (like the kind bullets are made of) and make them do very potent things. I wanted to come up with some fun and unique rules for holy magic in Glory and decided the world's clerics use various metals and transmute it into light that has varying properties depending on the metal. So Verse can make bullets and knife blades do all sorts of things depending on what they're made of. Different metals do different things.
And the best part of all is nobody expects a cleric to be a vampire's bodyguard, especially not one in black.
Everything all comes together in this page. I love that this is what appears almost a year after we created Glory as I honestly consider this one of the first iconic pages from it. A year ago Fox and Vex and I put our heads together and started throwing ideas together, then we invited other people to join in, and a year later we have lore, history, rules for multiple kinds of magic and fun locations. We have a huge cast of characters and all sorts of ways their stories can go and even an AMAZING map!
Happy first birthday, Glory. I'm glad I kept that placeholder name.
PS. Fox's Patreon gets to peek FOUR pages ahead and you can contribute ideas to the Glory universe on her Discord! https://www.patreon.com/islaaukate
