Dawwwwww... that's a cute little story! I liked it. ^^
Though man, did Leonard sound condescending when he said "...Don’t worry your pretty little head about it. ...This isn’t the first time that you’ve failed on the court, is it?” I'm surprised Vera took that as well as she did. But nevertheless, it was a cute story with a nice little ending. ^^

I was going for "He's been committing critical failures in the highest level of pro ball a little while longer than she has, so he knows what he's talking about". He was trying to give her advice. That's why Vera accepted it so quickly; she was still stewing a bit about that play.
