They do remind me a little of the schoolboys in 'The Bridge' (1959). They have no idea what is going on outside their little bubble where they live and only get distant news from the war. And when they finally understood what war was... Watch the movie, even if it is in black and white. The ending is... brutal is putting it mildly.
But yes, they remind me a little of the schoolboys from that movie.

I root for Leopold he has a direct goal and works for it, he knows what happens if a Guardian fails in his duty since he lost his mother. Mira on the other hand is a summer-child raised by he tree of life and born with a special gift, she acts spoiled. So i can't wait for the first time they get throw into an actual chaos threat :D
I'd say Tristan is very likeable, all things considered, his biggest flaw is his low self esteem, which can lead him to be gaslighted into doing things.
Other than that, he's a very good natured individual. Which is funny, cause he's thief, and he still thought of others well being, more than himself.

But also remember that they're in an era where long distance communication is probably very limited, and even the fastest methods available to them is relatively slow. Luna and the others are likely able to perceive events from other locations, But are deliberately withholding the specifics of events from people around them until it's necessary to tell them.
It's entirely possible that many of the general public just don't know how close Chaos is to attacking various settlements. And could very easily start a panic and cause more damage if people were just told out of the blue that a cursed and seemingly unstoppable enemy was so near by and headed toward them.

Do you mean the Guardians that died a few pages earlier? Cause the Gods didn't die. And Guardians are much more numerous, and not everyone would know the identities of each and every one. Only the Gods would. And they did discuss about the fact that they didn't have very many guardians in general left, and purposefully withheld that fact from their people.
I mean the gods from the meeting in Book 0 Page 71 ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43211211/ )
According to Book 1 Page 22 ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49472556 ) they don't have any gods left.
Which sounds to me that the gods have either left the world completely or died. The gods did sound very desperate back at page 71, so I'm assuming they died.
Either way the gods are gone.

By the looks of it, they have only had 2 deaths among them. having to look at the pages, that object in the middle of the table seems to actually account for the lives of the gods themselves.
That being said, It doesn't seem like these gods actually govern any natural orders within their world. by that I mean, their presence isn't required for what they govern. like for example, if Loria, the goddess of Light dies, I doubt that all light just goes away.
So it's possible that their deaths are very literally kept secret from the people. And no one notices because the gods really don't frequently visit any of their people very often at all. Except for a few like Luna who very frequently visits towns and villages by the looks of it. So most of the gods likely don't have very many people that personally see them. So for most of them, a death among their pantheon would go unnoticed for a relatively long time.

I think it's quite that everyone in the cast has there own faults.
That said, personally, as self motivated as Leopold is, I don't think he'd deny or refuse help from other Guardians because he wants to prove himself as the best there ever worse. I do genuinely believe he's taking it 100% seriously, but I think his issue is, that's all he's thinking about, I don't know for certain until it's confirmed or not, but I don't think he has much of a life outside of, being the best Guardian. He gives me the vibe of someone who's life is consumed by the job.
As for Miralle? Well as of this page I'm thoroughly convinced she needs a reality check, there were hints of it in the prologue, but it does appear being raised by the tree, has had a negative effect, that being she seems too relaxed, and a bit spoilt.
As comical as it is, I don't think one would find what Leopold is doing humorous, especially as she's Guardian herself, and I'm assuming she's somewhat aware of what she's getting herself into. Minus the darker aspects of the title of course

Interesting to see that out of the Guardians in the cast we've seen, Miralle seems the most lax, about it all. Could be wrong, but from this interaction, it does kinda look like she needs to be knocked down, a peg or two, if she's acting like this.
Kinda funny to see, the most decent personality wise out of the cast, was Tristan, whose a thief, but still thought of others well being, rather than just his own.
Also nice to see Leopold is dedicated to his training.

I wonder if part of it will involve "Parting Words regret" from Nigel to his Lil' Bro, Toby?
I mean, the Prologue reads as if it was spoken from adult (Or at least, "Grown up") Nigel's perspective, and it is notable that Nigel calls himself the "Biggest piece of shit"... Yet Toby isn't even given such a vulgar title...
I get the feeling he is proud of Toby for succeeding where he failed... And we don't know exactly when in the timeline Nigel was reciting the story... For all we know, that is Present Day Nigel... Or way further forward into the Future Nigel...
Oh Dear... I think it may get VERY heavy in the next few chapters.

Well that's certainly a given, we just have to wait and see what happens.
Considering we know Nigel's still around, based on the previous page, I'm assuming he overhears what their talking about, and does something incredibly stupid.
That's just my take on things, I may very well be dead wrong, or I could be right, who knows, but that's the fun of discussion.

I think it's interesting to go back to Book 0, their prologe story Initiation, because form page 14 to 17, it bascially outlines all the strengths and weaknesses Mira and Leo have. Their character arc is basically already laid out in front of us, the only thing remaining is to see how it happens. Nigel is on the same boat too, as we already know what is his problem, what is, more or less, the end goal for his character.
Mira and Tristan are more ambiguous as to where their trajecotry as characters goes.

Tristan from what I understand is a pure hearted individual, but very weak willed, and thus gaslighted or coaxed into doing things he either doesn't agree with, or doesn't want to do. I suppose his end goal would be something along the lines of self respect, independence, and self confidence.
Chilli admittedly, I'm not quite sure, though if I were going to guess, I'm thinking something along the lines of finding where she belongs, where here talents are needed, and finding individuals that accept here for who she is. Considering her story, made it quite clear she's a bit of an oddball.

>son who trained to be a Guardian his entire childhood
"Sorry, you're, like... bad in the heart... or something, I dunno... go away now and live in misery."
>girl who almost killed an old man by making poison and then stowing away on a cart
"YOU'RE HIRED! Please protect everyone with your smug sense of superiority!"
... ok

I think the difference was Nigel was more in it for pleasing his parents (albeit subconsciously) vs Chili who, despite majorly screwing up, was very much taking a risk to genuinely help someone. So on that level I get why he's not chosen when she is
But that being said, i feel ya! he's definitely the more likable character of the two. Not too much a fan of the current guardians these two are pretty obnoxious lmao

On a fundamental level yeah there's no issue. But their family dynamic was super unhealthy I mean, they trashed him the second he didn't cut it and replaced him with the son they were previously neglecting.
If he put all his eggs in that basket of constantly trying to prove himself to people who only love him for his status it's going end badly eventually.
I think his story and dynamic with the tree could've been handled differently from a story perspective but that's an entirely different issue

Interesting how Leopold, despite his personal objective, seem to really value the duty of the guardians and genuinely want to live up for the expectation of the role.
Also, before to judge his personality, I'll rather wait to see how he act with more people than just his father (who seem to have disapointed him badly in the past) or Miralle and Chili (who probably are annoying him from them childhood and literally introduced themself saying he's all muscle and no brain)

Boys will always be boys, and girls will always be girls, as always happens. Leaving that aside, although I find what's happening here funny, I must say that I don't like that Miralle behaves like a spoiled brat, but taking into account that she was always Luna's special one, it doesn't surprise me that she has that attitude to begin. Chili is fine I guess, since she would be the healer of the group, but yeah, she basically acts the same way as Mira and I don't like that. Nigel, who is in the background (first panel) looking at the rest of the team doing nothing out of his own jealousy, which is not surprising. And finally, Leopold, who is the second most decent in the group after Tritan, is the one who deserves the most respect, as well as being taken into account, for now at least, since he, unlike the rest, does take his job as Guardian with the corresponding seriousness. However, to end this, I have no problem believing that by the time the story progresses, they will understand that facing Chaos is not something one should take lightly, at all; that would be all for now.
The tank, the spell caster, and the healer
Along with two grifters.
This will be an intriguing arrangement. They all have.... unique personalities.
I'm inquisitive as to why the guardians, simple mortals, it seems, are tasked with such an arduous mission where even gods have seemed to have failed.

I get that maybe she doesn't like him, and he might be as much of a oaf as she says he is... but physical training requires some brains as well, and the amount of concentration needed to skillfully perform those actions under stress is pretty serious as well. It's not like he's just some musclehead in a gym, pumping iron to see his body expand more; he's training for combat. It's probably not nearly as simplistic as it seems.
If you think so, go out and swing a huge axe around wildly for a few hours. Apologies if you lose any limbs in the process!
