Bob Ross is a hero of mine. While I never painted in oils like he did, there were many things he said in his program that resonated with me.
He said that painting a landscape was like creating a world of your very own. When he painted, he decided where the clouds and trees lived in his world. And he decided when it was all finished.
I loved that truth. When I draw, I'm totally the boss. I decide what my creatures will look like. I decide when it looks good. Nobody else does.
If God ever gives me a chance to teach art to other people, that's what I want to tell my students. They're the boss.
