Well, you can't let your enemies chew on your bones, so they took to protecting their corpses. The heads are mounted and the bones are put into jars. It's part of the funerary rites that an Heir performs for her deceased mother. When Songween's sisters allowed their mother's body to rot before Songween could return to Rackenroon, Songween could not perform the rites, and never forgave her sisters for disrespecting their mother that way.
When they're young, yes. As they age, they return back to the child like life. From what I've heard and seen so far about a young Songween, she was quite the terror and ruler... which looked like she was seriously hands (paws) on in style. Now she's havin a good laugh and looking forward to retirement mischief. (Or so it seems.)
