I suspect Brand is just really, really strong. He was quite willing to go toe to toe with the Quetz queen and tell her to f*** off into the sun. What he has little to no defense against is magic - that's Saida's department.
And she just discovered that even though she's separated from her magic, she has PHYSICAL POWER - and she used it to terrifying effect.
(I don't think Ayal is an imposter. SOMETHING about fighting the Puppetmancer corrupted and twisted him, and he became a paranoid nutcase. He's not an imposter, but he IS a puppet - ironic, considering Roko, the one he identified as a puppet, is the most independent of any of them!)
