Correct, By this time of the DragonScape (87PA or so, over 50 years after Imuas arrival into the DS) you wind up with a strange phenomena where, due to the decades long history many colonial outposts have by this point, most if not all of the people manning them had likely long since Õndemified (turned to drekir).
So the oddity of "human" outposts without a human in sight is pretty common by this time period. They may have come from the outside but they are definitely not immune to the same crisis the 1st generation went through

Was going to say - that sounds like a local, maybe Italian? From one of the former "colonies" like Capitán Pastene or similar? Chipilo or Nova Veneza?

Nah this story takes place along the border of what was Venezuela and Colombia and the descendant language spoken here is mostly descended from Spanish and indigenous languages.
I say descendant language as by this point in the timeline (late 80sPA) it isn’t a mutually understandable language to the prepulse tongue. It’s just a different language similar to but definitely not the prepulse language.
Anything that feels Italian is coincidental, particularly considering the similarities between Spanish and Italian, being closely related descendant languages of Latin

Presumably, the humans-turned-drekir are a corruption of the species and must be eliminated - if only to preserve the 'pure' drekir for research purposes without crossbreeding.
But also, they might reveal too many of the humans' secrets (even unwillingly) to the locals, or somehow expose their plight back home - either way, they're a security risk.

If anything Õndemification is seen as a failure of individual skill and will, at least amongst the SEAC. If someone got drek'd, its because they were irresponsible in not maintaining their PPE. But the actual process of being drek'd they tend to associate with a lack of "Civil will" amongst their colonials.
Anyone who fails that is doomed to fall into "feral savagery" without a disciplined human presence, at least going off of what the average SEACa believes.
There is a lot of irrational, bigoted rationalizations for this sorta thing. They just figure its a dreks natural state of being and weakness in the weak willed. They're wrong of course, but that is what they believe

I mean they said likely, so really noone truly knows what happened to Imua. Assuming they are still alive by this point they would be in the late 70s early 80s, which for a drek is the end of the midlife stage of life and the beginning of their elder, final years. Drekir can push upwards of 110 years before finally dying of old age assuming good health.
Not common to see drekir hit that age but they definitely can if in good health
They might have passed away by this point, or they might be an elder peacefully settled down somewhere, SEAC doesn't really have any clue one way or the other

SAVAGE SLAVER PEOPLES OF THE QUÉBÉCOIS???
Sounds like things aren't going to well back there geez.
Gosh it would be so interesting to see how the Joual French of Québec in drek tongue sounds like!
Seriously I absolutely love this world building and this whole series; you have done such a fantastic job and it is inspiring. The characterisation, the healthy attitude towards mental health, and just the incredible work in building a narrative centered around a main character and his pack is incredible!
Keep up this amazing work, but make sure not to overwork yourself! ^w^
Can't wait to see more!
