Third in a series of 1972 images of military 13-lined ground squirrels.
Design & cartoon by Ken Fletcher. Requested by (& with input from) Louis ("BluePetal") Fallert, and inspired by 1960s cartoon stories by Vaughn Bode. (Specifically, "The Junkwaffel Invasion of Kruppenny Island" pulished in 1968.)
This is a signals rodent on a ground squirrel battleship. (Setting of the battleship "Was To Be Determined"). The skill of using the signal flags for coded messages may continue to be taught as an emergency way of visual communication between ships. One or two signal flags could be used to send code. (Or maybe this gopher forgot they need a second flag?)
