Chapter 7 - Together
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
Vayryn and Corwyn get to have their dinner not-date, and it goes adorably, doesn't it? After that, it's time for some more Awkward Conversations Vayryn Would Rather Not Have To Have. (It's always time for that, isn't it?) Hiding things from the world is one thing, but from your friends? Even if they're not the closest, they're still close enough. And friends are a precious commodity to be treasured and held on to, when you're going through something like this.
But there's a new complication arising. There's just something about yinglets that makes the universe determined to never give them a break, isn't there? At least she gets to have her weekly hospital and therapy appointments before she has to deal with that, gives her a chance to talk about what's going on to a sympathetic ear.
And Corwyn drops a surprising revelation on Vayryn. Maybe the universe CAN cut a yinglet a break sometimes, after all...

i feel unintelligent for not realising this earlier, but..... this series is kind of an allegory for living as a trans woman isnt it? ive had feelings/situations kinda like vayryn. being scared to see certain relatives at a party becuz i wear skirts & blouses now, for instance. getting treated a certain way by strangers.
It's less "an intentional allegory" and more "I'm drawing on my experiences as a trans girl who became disabled (and now can't do all the stuff she used to) to write this". As well as drawing on the otherkin aspect of being able to feel this body.
It's not a coincidence that the struggles would mirror those two aspects: being trans is all about changing how your body is seen, if not changing your body itself, and the reactions you get from others who don't understand what you're going through. Same with being disabled, your body is changed against your will into something that is less physically capable, and you become unable to properly live independently. It's scary to lose that independence, and I often push myself way harder than I should and pay the price for it.
Vayryn is the most "based on me" of the Three. That first paragraph isn't made up, that's something I really did. I'm honestly amazed sometimes I didn't get in trouble for it. I guess giving something like 20 free credits helped remove the urge to find someone to complain to. ^.^;;
(Also, rereading the last part with Corwyn asking her out on a date is just great. ^.^ )
