That was the Boston green line cars up until the late 70s when they started getting replaced by the Boeing lemon LRVs. They continued to be operated on the red line extension line to Mattapan until recently. They might still be, for all I know, I haven't ridden that line in several years.

the most interesting one was the one that was modified for snow clearance duties. they cut the windshield and the first ten feet of roof and windows off, mounted a jet engine from air force surplus from a saberjet that blew forward and down in front of the car. Any snow that didn't get blown away by the jet blast got melted from the heat. they did have to take care that they never completely stopped moving though, as a couple minutes exposure would boil off the cresote from the wooden sleepers and ignite it.

Last I heard, they were still running on Mattapan. I rode the Boeings in both Bahston and SanFran. Rode OK in my brief visits. Had HO AHM LRVs that ran better than the prototypes... ;)

The NYC had a similar snow blower. Mebbe I'll build one in O27 for the Razorback Traction Co. :)

The problem with the Boeing LRVs were they needed to be maintained like jet aircraft. Replace entire assemblies instead of repairing an individual control knob, and the assemblies were similarly high priced. Huge dollar costs.
