An Arcanine was a good, if not the only, choice- no offense to felines, but the phrase is 'guard dog,' after all. Karin's resolution while watching over her charge is highly admirable. At the first sign of serious danger, her wide-mouthed smile and comforting warmth are hidden behind a fanged snarl and a wave of flames. And, as soon as that danger has passed, she will devote her full attention to repairing any damages to innocents or their property before even considering her own condition. Not that she's likely to find anything capable of injuring her, of course; she is after all a fire-elemental goddess, and flammable creatures stand little chance against flame gods. Especially when the deity in question is powerful enough that, to them, everything is highly flammable. There is always the possible danger of a wandering rogue Elder God or a pseudo-Eldritch entity powerful enough to overwhelm her, but I do believe her concern for her universe's well-being would be more than enough for her to swallow her pride and contact me for assistance. Hopefully, we'll never have to find out.
She was initially hesitant to follow my suggestions for changes to her physical form, and, after discussing with Inari, I agreed my first plans may have been... Overkill. Although they certainly would have terrified any would-be attackers, they would also have probably terrified many mortals. She was quite eager to work with me in selecting some more moderate alterations, though, and we were all very satisfied with the results. Her body is distinctly feminine and comfortably fluffy, but packed tight with enough muscle to warp the black stripes across her pelt. There is also a vaguely motherly arrangement to her mass that further complements her frame. She has the appearance of a toned, trained warrior rather than a helpless child or an unthinking barbarian.
Karin has also shown a preference for non-violent resolution. When threatened, she greatly prefers to harmlessly demonstrate a supernova-level flame in her palm or grow to ten orders of magnitude her enemy's size. Nothing the least bit difficult or complicated; only a simple reminder to her attacker that the power they're facing is entirely beyond measure.
Overall, she has struck an excellent balance: her kindness prevents her from seeking pointless revenge or reveling in destruction, but her loyalty and compassion ensure she won't hesitate to defend innocents to her very last breath. Truly, she is a noble knight in fiery armor for her people.

rabid of Karin the Arcanine goddess. Karin here is obviously an Arcanine, and just as obviously not just any old Arcanine. She was selected by the Æsir family to serve as guardian goddess for her home universe, and eventually perhaps some of the neighboring universes around hers.
That's really how the Æsir family rolls- rather than try to watch over zillions of universes populated by free-thinking entities (and sometimes challenged by devastating forces originating from universes NOT under their ownership), they spend a few lifetimes incarnating as creatures native to that universe, and once they feel they have a good understanding of the general environment they designate the most fitting individual they can find to be a local deity. This 'lesser' god or goddess is charged with making sure nobody accidentally nukes the entire cosmos or opens a gateway to a dimension of giant planet-eating cacti aliens or crosses the beams or whatever. Inari and Fenris regularly check back on their ascended deities to make sure everything is in order, of course, but for the most part those guardians are expected to be self-sufficient, and they're given enough power to realize those expectations easily.
So, like I said, she's obscenely powerful. Here, she's grown a smidge larger (just a few miles or ten) to scout out for danger. It doesn't actually help her see any better (since she's mentally checking all over the universe for extra-dimensional invaders), but it does seem to reassure mortals to know they've got a mountain range-dwarfing deity watching their back. I think it'd make me sleep a little easier too, personally.
