Okay, so I need to ask...

I've heard reports that Snoot game involves convincing a nonbinary trans character that they actually aren't trans or nonbinary... is this true? Cuz if so that sounds really... problematic.

You, the protagonist, don't technically convince anyone of anything. What happens in Snoot Game is that the narrative itself implies nonbinary genders aren't real by literally portraying the nonbinary character in question as being groomed by a stereotypical "SJW". I'll leave you to decide whether that's better or worse.

The two endings where you don't convince Fang to stop being nonbinary are bad endings (which includes one where Fang commits a mass shooting). So needless to say that Snoot Game might be problematic.
Also Snoot Game was made by 4Chan users so that should tell you everything.

It's full of a lot of crap. Like think of every dumb take from stupid-regressive-teenager-internet and it's in there in some form. But it's also well written for the most part, and so if you can look past that it's a pretty good game, it's not overtly pushing an offensive world view onto you. It's presented from a not particularly enlightened world view, and it is definitely not woke.

It's like if you go back in time 20-30 years, to the days when Duke Nukem 3D hadn't yet aged so incredibly poorly. The less progressive half of the media from back then would be roughly indistinguishable from what Snoot Game presents. If you can get through an Adam Sandler movie without losing your lunch, you can easily enjoy Snoot Game despite its flaws.

There is just something so weird about a 4-Chan "fan game" that makes people cry.

Like, for a web forum known for creating some of the worst of trends, enabling toxic behavior, and just having a really poor taste in humor most of the time... It's fascinating how once in awhile you get something that truly is deep and thought provoking.

Then again, I never played the game, I just looked at the Rule 34 and read up about the plot elsewhere, so what do I know?

Based on what? I know what determines all 4 endings to Snoot Game, I'm not sure why when bringing up the contents of the game the only retort is "didn't play the game lol". I'll humor a possibility and assume you mean "you don't have to turn Fang into a school shooter", you can achieve this by taking routes where you insist them along de-transitioning; looping around to my comment where I say: The "good" endings only happen if you de-transition Fang, otherwise they turn into a druggie burnout or a school shooter.

Now you're just plain lying, there's not a single line anywhere in the game where Fang is encouraged to stop being NB, literally not one.
Hell, the entire NB topic is only brought up once at the start of the game shortly after the concert fiasco, and then once more vaguely brought up at the start of the 4th ending where Anon (the MC) even accepts Fang as NB and uses their preferred pronouns with genuine respect.

Nothing in Ending 1, 2 or 3 even as much as alludes to Fang's status as nonbinary being a problem, rather the factors surrounding them and the actions that led them there. In ending 1, it's because Anon is an absolute idiot and fails to support Fang in any way and just makes things worse after Fang suffers the absolute worst day of their life, and the results are a result of failures from all parties involved. In ending 2 it's because Anon is a piece of shit, plain and simple, Fang bears no blame in this ending. Ending 3 is where Fang's friends abandon them while Anon ends up in the Military, which is doubly bad because of how codependent Fang becomes in this ending. It's not a good ending either, because Fang is left deeply scarred.

Literally the only good ending, Ending 4, is where Anon moves past his 4channer self and becomes a more compassionate and empathetic person while Fang is given the support needed to succeed on their own and embrace their passion for playing on a guitar instead of a bass.

None of these endings have anything to do with Fang being NB.
