Shortly after becoming the Mistress of the Hunt, Nala was tasked with being in charge of the hyenas who served Scar by finding traitors on his kingdom. Though Nala hated working for Scar and be in charge of the hyenas, she was forced to do so as part of her role as Mistress of the Hunt.
On her first day with the hyenas, Nala wants to train them to fight, as hyenas are brutes that rely on brute strength. The hyenas insult Nala for being a lioness. This forces Nala to establish discipline by challenging two of the hyenas who insulted her into a sparring match.
The hyenas charge at Nala in a two-on-one match. However, Nala does a one-armed handstand. And then she performs a split kick. Her toe claws cut the face of the hyena on the left and the side of her paw breaks the jaw of the hyena of the right, knocking out his teeth.
With both of her enemies defeated, Nala points out that she was holding back. From the day on, the hyenas became loyal servants to the Mistress of the Hunt.
