I know it's sometimes a medically necessary question, but it's still super annoying.
Not every medical symptom is a sign that you're pregnant!

Okay, I know that this is a pregnancy joke, but I have been and always will be in the camp of people who believe that the whole egg thing is more of a game mechanic thing so that Nintendo doesn't have to explain jack shit about the complications of giving birth to children as ever since generation four, Nintendo has made it clear through an NPC that no one has seen a Pokemon actually lay an egg before.
I am of the belief that the egg nonsense is purely a game mechanic, and that the only Pokemon that actually lay eggs are the avian and reptilian pokemon; with Pokemon that basically living plants such as Sunflora also having eggs but not actually laying them, they actually grow in some sort of special vine growth.
And the first Pokemon game that included the Daycare System that brought on eggs in the first place that I was able to play, was Pokemon Emerald, and even then, I treated the egg group thing as a game mechanic.

That is a good idea, and one I was mulling around when I made this comic.
Though since in the games, comic, and show, it always shows pokemon hatching from eggs, I decided to stick with it.
I do think it would be cool to see how different pokemon go about laying or caring for eggs. Like how the fish pokemon would probably lay eggs which would then need to be fertilized. Mammal, reptile, and bird like pokemon would probably just lay their eggs after a certain period of time and then care for the egg until it hatches. Plant type pokemon might just plant their eggs like seeds in the ground and then it hatches and pops out of the ground like a plant.
Pokemon and biology is always fun to think about. Especially when you consider the wide diversity of the pokemon universe!

The anime has questionable continuity at best. Especially since I noticed one person sent me a picture apperently from the anime where a Whimsicott removed it's fleece and I was like "What the fuck?!"
The Manga is also it's own separate cannon from the games, even if it's more closely tied to the games then the anime.
And while I know there are mammals that lay eggs, I don't remember if any Pokemon are based on them yet tbh.
