Pierre closed his eyes for a moment, rubbing a hand against his temple. Yet another customer deciding to cancel after he finished their order was not what he needed today.
A low voice came from behind him. “You smell nice.”
“Good afternoon, Lubo.” Pierre started to scroll through other prospective customers. “I just finished some vanilla scented candles. That’s probably what you smell.”
“Oh! That smells nice too.” Lubo’s tail started to sway back and forth behind him. He sniffed the air again. “You also smell… stressed.”
He nodded, like that’s the definitive verdict on how Pierre was feeling.
“Right, yeah. I forget you can do that. Just another cancel. It’s nothing, really.”
Lubo sat on the couch. “Oh. Maybe I can buy something! I won’t cancel and you’ll get more business!”
Pierre laughed in spite of himself. “Lubo, we live together. You don’t have to pay for things from my shop.”
“Let me help you,” Lubo whined, turning onto his back, his head resting neatly in Pierre’s lap as he looked up at him through his shaggy bangs. “What if I need more repressors?”
“Do you need more transformation repressors?” Pierre raised an eyebrow.
“No. But what if I buy some, and you can make it free but I give you a 110% tip!”
“110% of zero is still zero.” With the burly half-wolf taking up most of the couch, Pierre was unsure what to do with his hand.
Lubo knew exactly what Pierre should do with his hand, and guided it to rest on his chest.
“Maybe I’ll help you make stuff then! You can teach me potions or candles or spells or something and I can help make your inventory!”
“Yeah… Maybe…” Pierre didn’t hear a word of it, just staring at his hand on Lubo’s chest, slowly rising and falling with his breaths.
“Oh! And one of the guys at work, he says he needs substitute. I gave him your site and he can be a new customer, and when we do stuff for someone we can tell them about you then, or, and. That feels good.”
Pierre realized he’d begun to gently rub Lubo’s chest, like some kind of therapy dog. It… made him feel good too.
He didn’t stop.
