So... I might've been smitten by Lala from Jungle Book: Shonen Mowgli. What can I say? A sassy she-wolf with deep daddy issues just ambushed my heart. She's a pain but a cute one.
Only wish that her character had more of a conclusion where she has more of a heart-to-heart with Mowgli and maybe confront her father, Vermillion, on walking away. Really worthy of a solid episode they seem to forget.
Also I ship her platonically with Mowgli in the Anime. Again, bad girl learning to be in touch with her feeling and admiring who she once derided gets me, okay?
The Anime's also a darn good adaptation by Nippon Animation of World Masterpiece Theater fame, free on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1y.....Er&index=1
All that said, Lala was actually based on Leela, a she-wolf minor character in Rudyard Kipling's original story. Though her personality and arc were expanded greatly for the television format of storytelling. I got thinking about how she'd make for an interesting character in Disney's version of the Jungle Book. Say, a story that expanded on Mowgli's time before Shere Khan returned to hunt for him.
I mean, cynically speaking, the big wigs would wanna justify keeping the IP but if they have to, I think I'll take back the Disney Sequels compared to whatever the heck we're getting next for a live action remake.
My idea would have Lala still as Akela's granddaughter and still pretty full of herself. She'd banter a lot with Mowgli as they try to show each other up in the pack from hunting to general exercises. Though a bit sharp with her tongue as with her fang, the two would be more playful and cheeky than anything since they wouldn't have much friends outside of their respective families.
If it came down to it, they would look out for each other and help their self-proclaimed rival from a jam. Hence why many of their escapades would largely go unnoticed by Bagheera in their effort to keep out of trouble... intentionally. Basically, she'd be Mowgli's BFF co-star.
As we see here, one of their little tiffs broke out into a full on race to Council Rock and back. Lala took the time to stick her tongue out like the "good sport" she is. However, she misses something just up ahead and down below that certainly isn't a finish line.
Hijinks will ensue soon.
