Well I mean... they're just fins, placed to be aesthetically pleasing and give the look/feel of ears. Adds more expression. Er, at least that's why my character Mischief has them.
Anyway, it's a humanoid shark, ear-fins are really the least weird thing ahahah.

If you want to put Logic in it. Then technically, sharks are not suppose to have toes, fingers, or even breasts for that matter. If it takes a form of something that's generally a mammal, its skeletal structure would mimic that of a human, thus allowing something like ears to be anatomically correct.
Why do they have boobs for that matter? Why do anthro birds have boobs? Because it's anthro, it can have any number of human qualities blended with any number of animal qualities. Humans have ears that protrude from the side of the head, so make em fin like and then bam it's more sharky.
It's all make believe anyway, why does it have to have a "reason"? I don't go around asking why some gryphons (likeshine for example) don't have wings. LOL Cause that's just their character and how they want it :3

Man, if sharks could fly, the world would be screwed.
That being said, I love how dynamic that pose is. Really portrays motion well (to me at least). And the contrasting warm background against the cooler character colors was an excellent choice as well! :)
