
Experimenting with the key art style for Foxblade, and in particular ways of achieving an authentic "90s JRPG cover art" look, so I decided to give traditional art a try.

Yes, it's traditional! I did a couple of corrections digitally afterwards fwiw, but that mostly amounted to upscaling, a little bit of proportional corrections using the liquify tool, and some color correction & overlay layers. The base image was all done traditionally & photographed, as I felt that was the best way I could get the authentic look I wanted.
Alcohol markers take a bit of getting used to for sure (esp. if you're used to using water-based markers), but once I started learning some of their tricks I was pleasantly surprised with how well they blend for shading! Although it can be very easy to accidentally saturate the page haha.
