An example of a rare Humane Restraint Grommet Back Straitjacket with side loops commonly used in Asylums from the Early 1920's to the late 80's/90's. This was a custom order from HR so it's new and only worn once hence why it's so stiff. Just like the belt back as before this is incredibly secure no matter how loose it is applied. The grommet and lace arrangement make it perfect for lying down or sitting back in a chair but do make it easy for another patient to come along and pull the knot loose for escape although not without difficulty first. As a general rule in Asylums it was a severe punishment to release a patient from restraints. The offending patient would face wearing the same restraint as the escapee but for double the time so that was usually an incentive not to do it.
The lace back jackets were usually applied to compliant patients due to the difficulty in lacing up a resistant patient but they were given extra privileges for compliance like staying up later and watching TV etc... Truth be told that given the option I know what I would choose. How about you?
