The Haniwa Army and Inodolar (Inodaraa) were the 42nd & 43rd monsters deploy by the Zelans, serving as the Monster of the Week in Ep.37 of the Dino Mecha Gaiking anime: "The Daiku Maryu, Occupied".
_Appearance and Abilities_
The Haniwa Army were clay warrior figurines left behind by the Ancient Zelans in a tomb near where the Daiku Maryu base would be built 2000 years ago, as it was foreseen by them, leaving a Bell like object – the Dokatu – engraved with pictures of the Ship itself and a giant tied by men. They were the principle threat of the story, and of all the Zelan creations were perhaps the closest to come to victory, successfully stealing the Daiku Maryu and putting Tokyo under its foot before they were dispatch by Pete and Sanshiro.
With the traditional human design depicted of Haniwa Figures, the Haniwa Army were dirt brown in color, with a spear in the right hand. They could fire laser beam from these to neutralize human opponents; they also fired energy beams from their eyes capable to operate controls despite their size. The Haniwas were the only creation of the Zelan's capable of Speech, making the more intelligent of the Dark Horror Army creations. They hold no mechanics inside, been empty clay statues, so how they were powered or able to move is unknown.
Inodolar was the 2nd and last minute threat in the episode, been release to destroy the Daiku Maryu when the Heroes took back control of it. Resembling a Boar with Red and Yellow body, green and purple lines around the eyes, with white spikes on the side of it head and yellow spikes on the back; it also sport black lines and a pink underbelly.
Inodolar was capable of flight, its legs serving as thrusters, with it hooves retracting for this mode, and its tusk could be uses as flying boomerang like missiles, which it replenish every time Inodolar fires them.
_Story_
Following a nightmare of been attacked and killed by Haniwa figures, Sanshiro proceeds to destroy Pete's collection which leads a scuffle between the two which is stopped by the others; after further argument, with Daimonji left perplex by his dream, Sanshiro leaves for a lone dormitory at the tail end of the Daiku Maryu with a garbage chute (this is important for later).
Meanwhile, checking historical records, the Zelan Generals learn of the Haniwa Army left behind in a Kojun Mound (a Tomb) next to the Lighthouse Base and decided to use them to hijack the ship. Thus, the villains carried the plan by unleashing a storm on the Kanto Region that uncovers the mound next to the Base and reveals the tomb. When found by Pete and the others the following morning, he digs and finds the tomb with the Haniwa figurines and a Dotaku bell at the center of the display, the latter showing images of the Daiku Maryu and man tied on the floor surrounded by smaller men.
As Daimonji and the others take the bell to be analyze by an experts, with Sakon and Bunta fishing near the base, and Sanshiro in a baseball practice with Hachiro's team, Pete is left on the Daiku Maryu – apart for 3 other watchmen – to study the statues. When Daimonji calls to report some concerns about the figurines, the Haniwa Army comes to life and neutralize Pete and Watchmen, tying the captain like in the Dotaku image, then taking control of the Daiku Maryu and leaves for Tokyo, passing over all the major characters along the way. The Haniwa Army reports to the Generals who then sent out the Zelan ships with troops for the occupation. As Daimonji and the others gather with Sanshiro, the professor tells Sanshiro's dreams were part of his Extra sensorial abilities, able to see in the future, been given a warning (a bit late there, Doc).
Once arriving on the Metropolis to cheering of the crowds, Daiku Maryu's sorties are unleashed on the city. The crew arrive to figure out how to deal with the problem when they notice an unconscious Pete dangling from the mouth of the ship and the JSDF soon about to make a response; Sanshiro, along with Fan Li and Bunta, take off to rescue Pete and they succeed in time for the Army to attack, however they are no match for the Power of the Daiku Maryu and the JSDF Armored Corp and Jet Fighters are decimated just in time for the Zelan ships to arrived with re-reinforcements.
Soon Tokyo is under enemy occupation, with the Daiku Maryu stationed on Imperial Gardens. Daimonji and the rest of the team watch from a building, planning to retake their ship back – Sanshiro recalls the garbage chute in the Dormatory on the tail and the group enacts a diversion; Bunta, Yamagatake and Fan Li attack the guards with an armed jeep and grenades, while both Sanshiro and Pete use the chaos to sneak from behind via the chute. Once inside, the two destroy the Haniwa Army and take back control of the Daiku Maryu, allowing the rest of the crew to board the ship – with the situation having change, the Zelan ships try to attack the Daiku Maryu, but it goes as much well for them as it did to the JSDF as it makes its escape.
General Demond calls for the monster Inodolar who emerges from the water and pursuits the Daiku Maryu in the air – the heroes, trying to avoid any further damage to Tokyo, guide the beast to the base of Mt. Fuji for the battle, where Gaiking is launched to deal with the beast. Gaiking jumps on top of Inodolar and tries to stab it with Counter cross to no avail; the monster takes the mecha off and fires it projectile tusk stunning Gaiking for a bit; in that moment, Pete takes notice that the Monster closes its eyes to regenerate new tusk and suggest Sanshiro to attack at the right time. When the beast fires its tusks once more, both Sanshiro and Pete unleash Death Fire and a Missile barrage combo turning the monster into a Flaming Hog. Then the two fire a Hydro Blazer and Dragon Cutter combo which finishes Inodolar for good.
After the battle, the Daiku Maryu returns home; Daimonji recognizes that Pete and Sanshiro are brilliant working together against all odds as the two shake hands to left behind the animosity from early.
